We could use some kits of full-sized BOP cars from ANY year!

I definitely agree with you on that. Any year, Any shape, Any size!  It would be nice to have a kit of  The Joker because I think that is one mean looking machine.     Thank you.      Jeff

Thanks for backing me up on that Jeff! We could also use some Cadys, Lincolns, Mercs, independents, and pretty much any thing other than over-done Fords and Chevys!

I can see Moebius doing this, if there were enough variations available for the basic tooling. Best chance would be a car with a well-known racing version, like a Lee Petty '57 Olds 88, that could be tooled up alongside a stock version. Same thing with a '57 Pontiac; stock fuel-injected Bonneville and Cotton Owens NASCAR Chieftain. Buick might work if there could be a stock '55 Century hardtop along with a police version Century two-door post sedan (which was only built for the California Highway Patrol).

I have to think of all the BOP tri-five cars that can be done, this has the best chance of all if ever.

As was mentioned, there's a race history (Petty's car), the popular two door hardtop, sedans, and if we're good boys and girls, maybe a wagon (probably only a good resin though).  Also, I could finally superdetail that Johan four door hardtop I've had forever, and it's in dire need of a resto.

The original inspiration behind the funky wagon above is so much nicer -- and the reason I'd like to see a '57 Buick Special or Century two-door hardtop more than any other BOP car!

And again CometMan you said it all. Don't get me wrong as I do and going by your name  ( CometMan )I'm pretty positive that you love the Ford's and Chevys too but yeah we could use some of the different brand's kitted up. We are definitely on the same page CometMan.  Thank you.      Jeff

There are for sure not enough Buicks out there for me. The market is also a little light on Oldsmobiles I'd like to see. And I have always love the big Pontiacs from the 60's. As others have mentioned, the market is also light on Mercurys. Plus slip me a few big Chryslers. I love 300 letter cars (and non letter cars up through 1979).

Put me down as having a hankering for '50s BOP cars as well. I've bought several promos and very simple Johan Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs to use as bash fodder, but I'd love to see new-tool complete kits. Just tell me where to send my money. :D

I also would like to see Moebius or Revell do something in this area. My thought is that if they did say the  '57 Pontiac they could offer a hardtop and or a post two door. Then they could make a Safari wagon off of the basic tooling. The same could be done with both the Buick and the Oldsmobile as a hardtop and then the four door hardtop wagons. It would be a big investment in time and money, but from all the comments here it sounds as though it would be a financially successful thing for them to do.

Sadly though, save for perhaps a Corvette (or similar sports car subject), convertible kits sell just about the poorest of any version of the same car with a fixed top in model kit form.  Dunno just why that is, but it's been a fact of model car kit history all the way back--from my experience.

Art, I used the convertible as just an example of a '57 Olds in general. Sure the hardtop would sell much better than the 'vert.......there's just that many more examples of the hardtop that can be made into other variants. Personally, I like the looks of the hardtops just a little better than the convertibles-------I'd take both of 'em though! ;)

I really dig the rear window design on the 57 Buick and Oldsmobile. The Pontiac never apealed to me until 1958.

I have to agree with the three piece rear window designs looks. As for the '58 Pontiac it took on the heavy look of all the General Motors line at that time. The models that I think suffered the most were the Buick and Oldsmobile, it seemed as if The General couldn't through enough chrome on them.

You're right Bill, but it would be very easy to make a "Vert" out of a hardtop.

While I totally agree that ANY new plastic kits of fifties cars would be very welcome, I have filled some of the Buick / Olds / Pontiac, etc.,  "holes" in my 1950's car collection using promos found either at shows or on EBAY, a couple of Welly diecast kits, some Mint diecasts, and some Modelhaus kits.  I still have several more lined up to do.

These are the ones I've completed so far:  1955 BUICK, 1955 OLDS, 1955 PONTIAC, 1956 BUICK, 1956 CADDY, 1956 MERC, 1956 PONTIAC, 1956 OLDS, 1957 PONTIAC.

Although I loose interest prior to  about the 1958 models,,,,,,, But I might seriously consider one of these .

I am guessing a 55 or 56 Oldsmobile ?

I tend to agree with ya.

I look for old annuals and in most cases buying a convertible version of the kit usually tends to be a tad cheaper . if it was avail as such .
