I didn't plan on doing a workbench topic, but I'm happy with the way this is coming along and wanted to share. Engine, chassis and interior work started...I haven't done anything with the body yet at all. Finished product will be black with a red hood decal.

Engine mocked on chassis.

Interior mock-up. Still need to detail paint trim and dash. Didn't like it when I had it bright red, so I toned down the red a bit. Dash will stay glossy, I hit the rest with a lustless clear to remove the shine.WP_20160226_22_05_51_Pro_LI.thumb.jpg.a2

I can't decide which wheels I want to use. At first I thought I was set on the Rally's, but I kind of like the stock wheels as well. What do you think?

The Rallys are correct to stock for that year Corvette, though you would really need the set from the Revell '67 Chevelle to get the correct center cap (1 year only short cap). The wheels included with the kit are actually incorrect for a '67, as they were discontinued after the '66 model year.

Thanks for the input. The rally's in the picture are from a '69 Camaro, but after doing some image searching I see what you're talking about with the center cap. I think I actually have the Revell '67 Chevelle kit, so I'll have to check the wheels in that kit and throw those on (I do think I like the rally's better).

Are you sure Bill? ,, It shows them as an option in the '67 brochure. [Although they have mistakes in them sometimes too]

I've seen several sources that state they were not offered/discontinued, plus several people I knew that were in the Midwest chapter of the Corvette club have told me the same thing. However, looking at some literature, plus the Resto Pack, those do show them. Both seem to be dated as early '67, though.

Maybe the earlier ones were true "knockoff" style wheels? The '67 wheels are regular 5 bolt with the matching cap. That could possibly explain it.

The originals ('63) were Kelsey Hayes Knock-offs with 2 spinners later to be replaced with 3 spinners. The 3 spinner continued through 1966 when the DOT outlawed Knock-offs.

The '67 wheels approximate the '66 Knock-offs, but have a cap to hide the 5 lugs that met DOT standards. They only sold about 3,000 Knock-offs with the '67 version even rarer.

True, the Ralleyes were many years. But Ralleyes were steel wheels with chrome trim rings (aluminum I guess) and caps.

Those Kelsey Hayes wheels are big bucks. I believe the 5 lug from '67 has been sold at $24,000 a set since they are a one year rare item.

 Wow ! The wheels that is a hard one I love both this is a car that looks great with stock or the Ralleye's I guess it will come down to what color you are going to paint the body and if that does not work put a picture of both up on the wall and fling a dart at one.!!!!!

So I took some short cap wheels from a '67 Chevelle kit, but I'm not sure I like the look as much as the other rally wheel (if you can see the red behind the short cap wheel, it's just because I haven't painted the wheel back yet. Thoughts?

Left work a little early and made a little progress this afternoon. Second coat of primer applied and lightly wet sanded (still need to sand a bit more before applying final primer coat). Mocked up on chassis.

The rally wheel with the short "Disc Brake" cap was standard equipment on the '67 Model year Corvette, as well as any disc brake equipped Chevrolet, which replaced the normally standard wheel covers on the Corvette, and other models with an otherwise standard wheel cover, or the dog dish caps with steelies. The Revell '67 Corvette Fastback has the Rally Wheels, but they do not have the "Disc Brake" styling on the center cap. The Model Car Garage '67 Corvette photoetch set has the wheel centers that has the correct look for the Rally Wheels for any '67 Chevrolet with Rally Wheels, even though the disc brake wording is not on them. The finned aluminum wheels in the Revell Corvette Convertible kit are the optional "Bolt-On wheels, and are correct.

On your model, in my opinion, any wheel you choose for the build will be fine. I have built a couple of '67 Corvettes in the past, and either wheel you are showing looks good to me, including the '68 up "Derby" Capped Rally wheel.

Agree that there is really no bad choice here! This is a svelt body style, and all your wheel options look very stylish, so it really comes down to personal taste; which do YOU prefer? Looking forward to the finished project.

That primer really shows the mold parting lines well. You'll be sanding those off, of course.

Yeah, I've done that since I last posted...did it before applying the final primer coat. I don't usually worry too much about sanding mold lines before I primer, because I inevitably find more once I get some paint on it.
