spencer1984 Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) A pair of recently completed Fast & Furious builds. First is Tej's '63 Galaxie from Fast Five, based on the AMT Millenium kit. Overall not a bad kit for its age, except the engine and bay were pretty crude looking. So I swapped the engine with one from a newer NASCAR kit, added an air flow panel, and called it a sleeper. The bumpers also were a bit rough with bad seams and flaky chrome, so I stripped those and redid them in BMF. The dog dish hubcaps were drawn in SketchUp and 3D printed at Shapeways. Paint is Tamiya Smoke over Flat Black (with some selective polishing) to recreate the patina of the 1:1. Next is Brian's Toyota Supra from Furious 7, based on the Tamiya kit with ZoomOn Models transkit. I was not really impressed by the transkit: the exhaust replacement was kind of crude, the grille insert was warped, the tires were roughly recast Aoshima parts, there were fit issues with the PE brakes, and the chrome stickers self-destructed thanks to the too-strong adhesive on the clear film. The front spoiler and lights were nicely done, and I'm happy with how it turned out, but considering how much I had to replace or repair I think if I had to do it over again I would have skipped the transkit and just made my own parts. I did add a few other details to get it closer to the movie appearance, including Sparco seats by Hobby Design, a correct three-spoke steering wheel, and a tower brace. As always, any comments/criticisms are welcome Edited March 5, 2016 by spencer1984
bbowser Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Nice looking models, I especially like the Galaxie.
Kenny B Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Nice builds Bill.Does Amt still make the 63 Galaxie? I really want one.Ken.
Dann Tier Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Great job on both!!, but my favorite is the Supra!
Phirewriter Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 The '63 has been out of production for a few years. Not too hard to find at reasonable prices. It's been reissued a number of times, saw a couple of the Prestige series releases at local show around the $15 mark.
