Johan 1959 and 1960 Cadillac  were both 4 door

I had mentioned the Jo-Han '58 - '62 Caddies, which were all four doors.

The strange thing is, I have, or have had most of those. I happen to like 4-doors. I have a plan to master a '63 Pontiac Bonneville, or '63 Chevrolet Impala 4-Door Hardtop.

I just remembered that I once also had a very warped 56 Chevy Bel Air 4-door hardtop with green tinted windows, no interior and tinplate chassis.
It was molded in cream, two-toned with red paint and had separate, chromed rb and fbg, as well as correct wheel covers.
I have no idea who the manufacturer was. PMC?

Rear View- '55 and '56 Chevy Promos -- The neat part is that they're 4 door sedans!

Both 55 and 56 4 door sedan promos.. I do believe it was PMC. I think there was a 57 4 door wagon too

'61 Hardtop Is A Promo, '62 Convt. Is An Original Issue Kit

And it's a hardtop but deserves mention... 61 Chevy 4 door hardtop, I believe it's AMT.   I think Modelhaus offered a resin of it

Jo-Han 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 Chrysler New Yorker and DeSoto Firedome/Fireflite - promos only, 1956es and 1959s also as X-EL reissues in the 80s

'55 and '56 Desotos - The '55 Has Metal Bumpers

There was also a '55 Desoto 4 door sedan... green one. The white one is a '56 as already mentioned. No interiors.

Jo-Han 1958 Rambler Cross Country Wagon, 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966 Rambler four door Sedans, 1966 Rambler wagon - promos and kits

There was also a 1959 Rambler wagon,  which is the one that Okey Spaulding / Johan did as a kit a while back. Moebius has that tool now so we will probably see it again soon, possibly as a Model King kit.   I believe the Rambler wagon promos went from there all the way through 1966.   And don't forget the 1960 era Rambler unibody chassis promo!

AMT also made a four-door '60 Falcon promo in RHD for the Australian market; unfortunately they were also acetate and would warp/shrink just as bad as their American counterpart.

There are various issues of the Chevy Nomads from 1955 to 1957. At the hobby store there was a '41 Ford woody wagon and a '49 Mercury Woody wagon.

One very important promo should be on this list--as it was the first plastic promotional model car done in 1/25 scale:   The Cruver Plastics 1949 Oldsmobile 98 4dr sedan!

A couple of weeks ago I received Modelhaus' resin '67 Corvair Monza 4-door hardtop. A very nice kit (goes without saying, it Modelhaus), of the one and American 4-door hardtop in the compact class. A lovely car. It should look great next to my Modelhaus '66 Corsa convertible I bought at the same time.

Sorry to do this Art, but I need to question you on this one. The '49 Fords hit the show floors about 6 months before the '49 Oldsmobiles. And AMT made the mistake of tooling up their first '49 Ford 4-door promos with suicide rear doors. They fixed that on the later versions, which tells the AMT's promos either appeared or were tooled up before the real '49 Fords hit the streets. I have my doubts that GM would have given a sneak preview of their '49 Olds 98, even though the body would be a carry over from '48, more than six months before the real car would appear.

I'm not saying your wrong. I'm just not sure you right. I'd love know the answer to this one myself.

Perhaps yes, perhaps no, Scott.  I was just 5yrs old in 1949 (how old were you?  ;)  ).  I would submit this however:   The Olds was available in toy and hobby stores well in advance of Christmas 1949 as my 8yrs older brother was at Kleinheim's Toy Store here in Lafayette IN, and bought the Olds for me as a Christmas present from his Indianapolis Star paper route money.  That leads me to wonder if the Olds wasn't announced at least a year earlier to the Toy Industry trade.

At any rate, it would have been interesting to have been old enough way back then to see and anticipate/understand just how that all came about--oh well!

I have recently seen Pictures of 61 & 62 Rambler Wagons

In Fact I asked the owner Why the Kit Okey sold was a 59

when the Promo was updated through the end of That body!!

Any one here know how we got the Custom Curbside Cruiser as a 59 instead of a 62, 63

????? what ever the last year was for that body style??

I know the 65 & 66 Wagon were done too

as I almost had a 66 at one time, and have seen the 65

Plus I had a 65 Sedan for a short time before trading it

As to the Toy version of PMC's 59 Ford Country Sedan

I have 2 a Pink/Coral one and a TURQUOISE one

So they were available in other colors besides Just the Pink!!

I also have a Turq. Ranchero!!

True the PMC toys did Not have Interior, Windows Or Hubcaps

Most also had Silver Plastic bumpers/grills But they do NOT warp!!

The Good point here is the Fairly Readily availabe Revell Parts fit with Little or No adjustment needed

I know, I did it with BOTH Wagon & Ranchero!!

Life was still a little over 8 years away for me at Christmas of '49. But, just because I wasn't there, doesn't mean I can't have some understanding of what happen back then. I still know the United States Declaration of Independence was declared on July 4, 1776. And Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941. The 1949 Fords made their appearance on show floors on June 10, 1948. The '49 Oldsmobiles, December 19, 1948. So, I'm just guessing the '49 Ford promo models with the suicide doors were out before the '49 Olds promo. It makes common sense. But, just because it makes common sense, does that make it right? I don't know?

AMT 1960 Corvair promo and kit

('61 promo also; kit was a two-door "hardtop")

AMT 1962, 1963 and 1965 Chevrolet Nova wagon - promos and kits

('63 only for the wagon)

AMT 1969 Ford Galaxie - kit only

(No '69 four-door)

Jo-Han '62 Oldsmobile is a Super 88 four-door hardtop, not a 98

Jo-Han 1958 Rambler Cross Country Wagon, 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966 Rambler four door Sedans, 1966 Rambler wagon - promos and kits

(No '66 four-door sedan; my mom had a 1:1 and I looked for one for a while before figuring it out.  Also, no '66 wagon kit)

SMP '61 Impala four-door hardtop promo: is molded in non-warping plastic and has a separate hood!

JoHan, I believe.

I'm pretty sure you are correct. I think Johan did all the Mopar promos  up well into the late 60s

I collect dealer promos , but nothing that old so my knowledge is limited of the early car stuff

I guess to be PC correct.

I am pretty sure Johan did all Mopar promos up to and including 1964 , From there Johan did only the Plymouth's up to 1970.

MPC did the 1965 thru 1970 Dodges, and I think they took over them all after 1970 model year for Ma Mopar.

same thing applies to the kits of the period
