GTJUNIOR Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 If you saw a picture of it with the roof on, you might think that it would be better if it didn't fit!No kidding. Man, this thing is UGLY. Very interesting history though. This took a lot of search terms to eventually find. Good luck to all of you.
GTJUNIOR Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 The clues for your Google search are all in the picture. You need to think about it a little bit creativity. It took me almost an entire day and some lateral thinking to find this one.

blunc Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I had to use a search term that I have never used before...(not telling what it was till this round is over)
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I found it. Didn't take any unusual search terms. Although I was wrong on what I intially thought it was.
dimaxion Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Even though I am familiar with this I am clueless ...... Thanx ..
dw1603 Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 This one was quite lively, thank you all for participating. It is, of course the Irish built Shamrock dating from 1959 to 1960. A fibreglass bodied four seater based on Austin A55 mechanicals, aimed at the American market. Sometimes referred to as The Irish T Bird, it was beset with problems and production ceased after only ten or so were built. Those who got it right were:Ace-GarageguybluncGTJUNIORBad luck 13bobthehobbyguyMatt BaconGee Bee (or George, as I call him?)Sky 88kataranga A brilliant response, thanks to all who took part and congratulations to those who got it right. Thats me finished for now, but particular thanks theotherunicorn for letting me have a go. I have a much better appreciation of the effort that goes into Auto ID. Cheers Ken! It was fascinating to hear the search terms and techniques others use, I've filed a few of those away for future use.Best wishes to you all and thanks again,Dave
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I recognized this one right off from research I did a while back on fiberglass sports car bodies of the 1950s. I couldn't recall the name, but remembered it had been referred to as "the Irish T-bird". A google photo search brought it right up. Then I tried the more generic "1950s fiberglass sports cars" and it came up again, first page.

In your PM to me you referred to it as "the Irish tbird" Well I don't know if every one does this, but when I'm reading, I tend to look at the first and last letters and let my subconscious fill in the gaps. In this instance, I thought you were particularly astute ? Edited April 1, 2016 by dw1603 More appropriate emoticon

Do the same search for "cars" and there it is, you really have to be thorough with your search terms don't you?

OOPS !! I lied. Just looked again ..."car"... image search brought up this green one about 1/3 the way down the page. Edited April 1, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
blunc Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I used the search word "ugly" and it came up pretty fast.
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I used the search word "ugly" and it came up pretty fast. I searched "ugly Irish sports car" and I got these. Not Irish, but they sure are ugly.
GTJUNIOR Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I guessed that it was from the late 50's or early 60's, so I searched fiberglass cars by year starting with 1957 and when I got to 59, there it was. Not identical but very close. After that a more detailed search using Shamrock cars and BINGO.
