squirrel886 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I couldn't locate the two previous Speedwagon projects I started, so I started another.
mod3l Lover Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Wow, . . Brad! Did you have a motor in mindyet to slide into that build ? That's so low that you will leave splinters onthe ground when you drive it!! I'm loving it, David S.
68shortfleet Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Hmmm, I like it. Never really thought about Z'ing and channeling a Speedwagon.
afx Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I like the stance, it's not unrealistically low. It actually looks drivable.
Dann Tier Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I like the stance, it's not unrealistically low. It actually looks drivable.I agree 100%!! cant stand the "dropped in the grass" unrealistic look, or the tyres and wheels so big I cant turn let alone fit an engine in it look either. Great job!!
Jantrix Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 How many kits do you own that two builds could just disappear?Nice work by the way. Keep it going.
GTJUNIOR Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I agree 100%!! cant stand the "dropped in the grass" unrealistic look, or the tyres and wheels so big I cant turn let alone fit an engine in it look either. Great job!!x 2. Low enough to be low, but not so low that it can't be driven on decent roads. Me likey.
squirrel886 Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Thanks for the kind words everyone! I tend to build my models as if they were something I would drive 1:1. Thus, some of the mods I do are referenced from magazines. If you look at the new scratch built motor mounts, you'll notice they're for a flathead. im not super detailed like a lot of the others here on this forum, so I usually won't include brake lines, fuel lines, throttle linkage, etc........building w/ that much attention to detail is hard enough 1:1, I just build car models to relax. Rob, I have over 24 car models in various stages of construction, in various boxes, I will no doubt find them one day. But in the meantime, I'll mess w/ this one.
mrm Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Thanks for the kind words everyone! I tend to build my models as if they were something I would drive 1:1. That is my approach too. As a matter of fact, I have a similar project on my bench now, except I chopped the roof off of mine together with leaving the fenders off. It will be different style from yours, because I am not a fan of that super channeled look and extremely z-ed frame. I always attempt to make my rods sit super low while maintaining the flowing frame .
squirrel886 Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 You won't get any arguments from me on that Michael. These are three of my other finished Deuces from Saturday.
Dann Tier Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 x 2. Low enough to be low, but not so low that it can't be driven on decent roads. Me likey. there should be a new class at contests called: "unrealistic and silly", for all the builds that could never really BE. IMO, the unrealistic builds should NEVER be judged against the REALISTICS.
mrm Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 there should be a new class at contests called: "unrealistic and silly", for all the builds that could never really BE. IMO, the unrealistic builds should NEVER be judged against the REALISTICS.With risk to be shunned from the forum, there are quite few "big winners" at GSLs and NNLs which received great praise and coverage that should not been chosen on ugliness factor alone, before we even get to the 20 inch A-pillars, unrealistic angles etc., etc…….Just in my own personal opinion, models should be judged on more things than just the sum of their parts.
squirrel886 Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 2/3s of the trans hump roughed in. The front 1/3 will be the foot wells, and where it blends into the firewall.
OldNYJim Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Beautiful scratchbuilding! Got any tips for assembling stuff like that trans tunnel from sheet? Do you leave tabs for the seperate pieces to glue to, or fold them and use less pieces? I'd love to hear more about how you did those
squirrel886 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) Beautiful scratchbuilding! Got any tips for assembling stuff like that trans tunnel from sheet? Do you leave tabs for the seperate pieces to glue to, or fold them and use less pieces? I'd love to hear more about how you did thoseJames, the trans tunnel is outlined on the floor. I then take measurements and draw the pieces on index card. I cut out the pieces from the index card and see how they fit on the model. Once any adjustments are made, I then transfer those measurements to the sheet styrene and cut it out. And further adjustments are handled, and the pieces are glued together. Ace-Garageguy Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I like the stance, it's not unrealistically low. It actually looks drivable. X2. Looks to be well thought-out and measured. I'm a critical SOB when it comes to models looking like they could actually work in reality, and what you've got here looks great. I like your line of '32s too.

squirrel886 Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 .........major scratchbuilding on the trans tunnel complete.
squirrel886 Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Sorry for the delays everyone, I started another project.
squirrel886 Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Once the trans tunnel is fab'd for the 5w, I'm going to fab both rear suspensions at the same time. I did did fit the rear bulkhead over the trans tunnel on the stock body Speedwagon, and the firewall is ready to be fitted also. I'll post pics once I take them.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Nice fab work. I didn't see the notchback mod coming. Cool.
