SfanGoch Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Uh, aren't they sisters? To quote Wikipedia: Jean was not, as commonly believed, related patrilineally to the actress Maureen Stapleton. Genealogists have determined that the two were fourth cousins through Jean's maternal grandmother and Maureen's paternal grandmother.
SfanGoch Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Impressive!!When filming scenes with Sophia Loren in "Boy on a Dolphin", Ladd had to stand on a box or the crew dug a trench for her to walk in during beach scenes. Loren was 2" taller (5'8") than Alan.

SfanGoch Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Linda Harrison. I spend way to much time watching movies and hanging out here and building models. Not bad habits. Don't watch as many older movies as i use to. Newer movies and shows I am very selective... I watch Movies!, GetTV, TCM, FXM and MGM. My son and I are big fans of the "dirty rat" school of cinema need our "hardboiled" and film noir fix. These are the channels that take care of it.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I always thought Barbara Stanwyck was one of the sexiest creatures ever created. She wasn't extraordinarily pretty or stacked or flashy, but man, she sure did it for me. Maybe it was the combination of brains and strength that always shone through her characters, even when they were wicked to the core.
sjordan2 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Another over looked favorite of mine Looks like Stanwyck to me.
sjordan2 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) Jean Arthur. She played Van Heflin's wife in "Shane". She was 3' shorter than Alan Ladd. Yup. It was widely known that Ladd either had to be on a platform or his costar in a trench when they were filming. He was 5'6", she was 5'3". All 3 in the picture are among my all-time favorite movie stars, and this is one of the best pictures ever made. The plot has been copied countless times. Edited May 2, 2016 by sjordan2
Dave Van Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) Looks like Stanwyck to me. No it was Jean Arthur......from the war time movie 'The More the Merrier'.....this little gif is just so........cool.... Edited May 2, 2016 by Dave Van
Snake45 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Jean Arthur. She played Van Heflin's wife in "Shane". She was 3' shorter than Alan Ladd. Three FEET shorter? Wow, I thought there was a height difference between me and The Lovely Mrs. Snake. (She's so fine, my four-foot-nine.)
SfanGoch Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 No it was Jean Arthur......from the war time movie 'The More the Merrier'.....this little gif is just so........cool.... Jean turned down the Donna Reed role in "It's a Wonderful Life" because she couldn't stand working with Jimmy Stewart again. Can't say I blame her. "The More the Merrier" was on just last week along with "Reveille With Beverly" starring Ann Miller. I saw her and Mickey Rooney in "Sugar Babies" on Broadway in October 1979. Ann Jillian was in it also. I can't stand musicals, but this was an excellent salute to vaudeville and burlesque. What do these two have in common?
Dave Van Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I caught the last half of Merrier on TCM......seen it many times.....love the part were Jean, cold cream covered face, slides to a stop when she notices a new room mate!!Good stuff

sjordan2 Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 One of my favorites from the '60s. HINT #1: HE: What do you want see on your honeymoon? SHE: Lots of lovely ceilings! HINT #2: In the same movie, Alan Ladd created a supporting role that became a feature film for Steve McQueen.

sjordan2 Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Elizabeth Ashley!! BINGO. Quote from "The Carpetbaggers" with George Peppard; Alan Ladd played movie cowboy Nevada Smith -- McQueen did a prequel.
slusher Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Alan Ladd is that Cheryl Ladds husband, and i do like Shane, seen it a few times...
