I like Gerry and the Pacemakers and The Who. I was suprised it took a while for The Animals and Cream to get mentioned.

Some legendary bands mentioned here, and I've been fortunate enough to see many of them perform live - the Stones back in 98 during their Bridges to Babylon tour, Page and Plant (Led Zep) in 99, and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd on two occasions, during his Dark Side of the Moon tour in 2008, I believe it was, and the Wall a few years back... BUT, you guys do realize UK music post 1980 also exists, right? :P

For example, my girlfriend's favorite two bands are Oasis and Coldplay - probably the most popular bands of what is known as "Brit Pop", while I myself prefer electronic and trip-hop sound from the UK, including bands such as Faithless, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Asian Dub Foundation, Depeche Mode, Radiohead and the likes...

I also like some of the 80's and new wave music from the UK, including The Cure, Stone Roses, Joy Division, New Order and such... Then there is Iron Maiden, The Clash, Muse, Bush...

Well, I could go on... :P

I's been pretty popular to be down on some of my favorites from the UK but I still like them and listen to the albums ,, er,, cassettes. ;)

And, of coarse,,

Don't ya just hate it that Harry told me how to post videos? LOL  :D

Being born in '65, this is what was on the radio in my teens so I guess it's what sparks the fondest memories of my youth.

All of the above, lets go back a while.  The Searchers.  Traffic you say.  Steve Winwood, everything he's done.  The Spencer Davis Group.  How about this guy, Hank Marvin?  Apache.

Uriah Heep Live was the first album I ever bought.  I still like them today, after forty one years.

I also have been listening to these guy for about the same amount of time.

These guys are pretty obscure, but I loved listening to them back in the day.  I still do!

This was pieced together from a jam session, but it's pretty cool!

Here is a song from them

I could post these guys all day...

I'll be back later with some more cool old stuff.  Maybe Toe Fat, or Atomic Rooster!   Badfinger is always great.

Seriously? A couple of mentions in passing and that's IT? The single greatest rock and roll band that the UK has ever produced? Mick and Keef are OK, but...

And 40 years later:

The Beatles were the best band the world has ever seen; the Stones were/are the longest lived band at the top, but The Who go on working, like ZZ Top but with a better back catalogue...

Costello has better song-writing, always, The Clash had the energy and commitment in their hey-day, and personally The Stranglers were my favourites, but no one has ever done guitars and drums so well...

Apart from this teenager:

And this art student did a pretty good job, considering...

And a couple yo may have missed:

I could go on, but I wont...

bestest,

M.

I agree on the Beatles. Best band ever, period. And I also was surprised that the Who didn't get a lot more mentions. Personally I've never liked them aside from maybe 2-3 songs, but they are huge! (not to me, of course...:P).
