Mike Chernecki Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Is Scale Hardware still in business? I just went to there website to lookup some bolt sizes and the website is gone. http://www.scalehardware.com
MrObsessive Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Oh man! I clicked on your link and yup...........they're gone! Usually that's a sign that they've closed up shop, but here's hoping that either there was a name change, or they switched up URL's. However even if they switched URL's, there would usually be a redirection to the new addy. Sigh.............thank goodness I stocked up a while back! I'm not sure who else sold what they did!
crazyjim Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 That's not a good thing. No warnings or close out sale?
MrObsessive Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I've been doing some fishing around on the 'net for the last 10 minutes or so, and I see nothing in the way of notices that they would be or have closed up shop. Sometime places have to close abruptly for one reason or another. What a shame if true...............
Mike Chernecki Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Hopefully they just did not pay the bill to their web host and the site will return in a few days.
futurattraction Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Guys - I e-mailed Bob a couple weeks ago when I couldn't access his website. He responded at that time and stated that he is closed. I didn't ask him at the time, but just sent a note to him inquiring if he had any stock left and his e-mail bounced back to me as undeliverable, so I'm afraid the news isn't good...
Trailer Trash Kustomz Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Dang that's a huge bummer! I th out I was the only one having that issue with their site. Any suggestions on where to find scale nuts, bolts, and tools now?
Codi Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Nothing to add to what's been said. With the recent closure of Scalehardware and another favorite, T2M last year, the pickings on the supplier side are thin. Last year when T2M closed up I bought from the UK, Germany, Australia and China to get whatever I could of their parts I've been using. I think I cornered the market. Then I thought, hmmm, you never know and so I bought a fairly decent quantity of the .5mm nuts and bolts from ScaleHard. as I use them quite frequently. But they too will run out at some point. RB Motion (Rob) has some really good product and reasonable assortment AND he runs a good business with excellent service. Like everyone else, I've searched fairly diligently for replacement suppliers but I've not found any that have threaded nuts and bolts in particular. There was a recent post of a supplier in Germany that has some .6mm & .9mm stuff that would be helpful. Now when I drop one of those tiny nuts or bolts on the floor I look REALLY hard to find it. REALLY hard.
MeatMan Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Sad news. I've used him a few times. Wish I'd bought for the stash now.
futurattraction Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) crazyjim, I did actually ask Bob if it might be "resurrected" at some point in time and his answer was "no". Edited September 13, 2016 by futurattraction
High octane Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Guess I'll have to fabricate some parts myself, oh well???
Quick GMC Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 this sucks big time. I bought a ton of stuff several years ago and have some left, but I am running short on some of the stuff I use, mostly the smaller brass parts. What a bummer. He probably didn't say anything because he'd get overwhelmed with orders. Not what you want when you're trying to get out. Hope everything is okay There is a company called Micro Fasteners, but as far as I know they don't make any of the really small stuff, only stuff that would work on 1/12+

MrObsessive Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Thanks for those links Bill (especially Morris)! The prices are a little steep, but I'm sure well worth it. I have enough on hand to suit me for a bit, but I'll definitely be keeping them in mind!
58 Impala Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Bummer. First Modelhaus, now Scale Hardware. I've bought both products in the past, excellent quality. What a shame...
Quick GMC Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Verlinden also shut down. It's military stuff, but a major presence in aftermarket. Done.
Mike Chernecki Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 (edited) There will likely be more shut downs coming as the people running these businesses retire. Looks at all the best aftermarket companies; Replicas & Minatures of Maryland, Model Car Garage, RB Motion, etc. These guys have been operating for 20-30+ years, they can't go forever. MrObsessive Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Mike, you make a good point and it's part of the reason I've been buying more aftermarket things lately, than kits. Time marches on, and what we took for granted as a sure bet as far availability just 10 years ago, is starting to fade as those we've come to know for things we need will someday no longer be around. It's sad, but it's also inevitable.

I just picked up a few T2M hex rivet sets from an eBay seller in China, so they are still out there, but it would be a good idea to plan ahead and stock up now.
Mike Chernecki Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 Great News! Scale Hardware is back, they were purchased by Model MotorCars.https://www.modelmotorcars.com/scalehardware/
shucky Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 (edited) EDIT - interesting, I clicked on the above link and it looks legit. Great news if true.Mike, I received that email this morning as well from "model motor cars" as I'm sure other customers of Scalehardware have also received. Has anyone ever heard of "model motor cars" before? Is this legit or did we get spammed? How will they restock SH products if Bob was the one making them and he closed and/or sold the business? Anyone have any more info? Edited March 2, 2017 by shucky
Mike Chernecki Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 I have heard of Model Motorcars, I believe they cater to the 1/8th scale Poacher crowd.
Codi Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Mike, I ordered a week ago from the new source. The .5mm threaded nuts and bolts in particular. Quite a few I would add. They were shipped and received in less than a week. From that experience, I would say you're good to go. Cheers, Tim
