Recently I received an model kit as a gift that is personally signed to me by the designer. It's a brand new kit. The plastic wrapping was removed so the person could sign the actual box. It has already become my most treasured model in my collection.

Somewhere I've seen a clear box designed to specify to store and display models car kit in a standard size box. I can't remember were I saw this, but I sure would like to find one for the special kit I talked about above. I could found find nothing specifically like that on eBay. Does anybody know if there is something like I'm describing? And if so, where I can get one?

Those were made by Polar Lights.  Apparently they weren't very popular, because they weren't available for long.

Try to find a display case large enough to hold a football. That will allow you plenty of space to display the model box without crushing it. The acrylic cases are much clearer than the styrene ones made by AMT and JoHan, are a bit more scratch resistant and show much better.

I was wondering who made those. I picked up a few at the NNL Nationals years ago and now wished I picked up 50.

Carney Plastics.  Cheaper to get 1/8" plexiglas from Lowe's or Home Depot, buy a cutter while you're there and some clear silicone caulk.  Make a base from wood.

You make it sound easy, but that sort of work is probably beyond the skill level of most of us... especially polishing the cut edges of the plex and getting straight, sharp, clean silicone joints. Also making a decent looking wood base without some power woodworking tools is pretty tough to pull off. I think most people that try to do this will wind up very frustrated.

It is easy.  So easy that I can do it, Harry.  I don't polish the edges or use a propane torch on them.  Sometimes I'll run a sanding block over the edge.  Running  a nice caulk bead is my biggest challenge.

And like the WWE tag team guys say - How ya doin, Harry?
