dragcarz Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 A few years back I purchased a model car collection from a man that stopped building models in 1962. This workbench was among the models. Does anybody know anything about it, it's 1/25 scale, moulded in the blue color you see. I was going to start doing some modifications to it, but decided to hold off until I could find out more about it.
carman1 Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 that is pretty cool, and long before the use of disc brakes on US cars, so I wonder what the circular things are ?
Mark Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 The circular things are probably hubcaps. I don't think that piece is from a kit, it's more likely from one of those lithographed sheet metal toy gas stations from the Fifties or early Sixties.

Mike999 Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) You guys nailed it. It's from an old MARX Service Station playset. Here's a recent eBay listing for one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1950s-Marx-Service-Station-Playset-Plastic-Accessories-Swirled-Pump-NR-/401208679754?hash=item5d69e69d4a:g:0p0AAOSwpLNYBXI4 Edited October 24, 2016 by Mike999 error
Mark Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Talk about detail, they've even got the crapper in there! My Buddy L Texaco station doesn't even have that, and the Texaco stations had "registered rest rooms"!
dragcarz Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 Thanks guys ! I knew someone would come up with an answer. I'm going to try and spruce it up a little.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 I would suggest making a mold of it, then chop up the copy. That way if something happens you do not like, you just pour another copy.

dragcarz Posted October 25, 2016 Author Posted October 25, 2016 Not going too crazy here. I've added toe kick below and want to add doors to the front with handles. Maybe a back splash board and detail paint.

dragcarz Posted October 25, 2016 Author Posted October 25, 2016 I've never cast anything before.......
SSNJim Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Why cast? Build a styrene box to the same dimensions, and raid your spare parts boxes for a couple of hubcaps, a six volt battery or whatever you want on it. You said you were going to modify it, correct? No need to make it any more difficult than necessary. It is a pretty cool piece.
dragcarz Posted October 28, 2016 Author Posted October 28, 2016 I scribed cabinet doors, added edges to bench top, added a back splash and door hinges. Needs a little more clean up. Ideas, suggestions, comments all welcome.
Howard Cohen Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Those 'round things' are not hubcaps, they are the tops of air cleaners Notice they are beside the oil filters Have any of you ever done an oil change or air filter change on a car from the 50s or 60s?
oldcarfan Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 That is so cool. If I had the space, (and the money) I would collect some of those old gas stations. My grandma had one of those in her garage that I would pull out and play with.
dragcarz Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 I've wanted a Buddy L Texaco gas station for as long as I can remember. They are way out of my price range though.
dartman Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Maybe some peg board on the back with tools hanging......
dragcarz Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Thanks for the kind comments I started painting the items on the bench . Hope to have it done soon .i will post pics.
68shortfleet Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Well done. Barely looks like the same piece.
Mr. Metallic Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 That came out really cool. Nice job adding additional details.
