BIGTRUCK Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) This is other build I have going and is another older kit save that the original builder,{ just like all young builders of the day did } glued on every part in the box .The windshield was in for the long haul,no way I was getting it out and no way to salvage the windshield frame .An original AMT 59 Chevy ,bad body but perfect windshield frame, was cut out and notched onto the Buick. Would have been a great idea except when eye balling the two windshield frames my eyes said same, but the Chevy frame was a tad wider , about 1/8th inch had to be cut out. I was able to save the original visors but cannot use the great glass from the 59 Chevy because of the modification to the "A" frame. The front and rear chrome had been freshly plated and has new taillights and 2 complete sets of hub caps. It also came with a set of nicely done Pace car decals. Edited November 24, 2016 by BIGTRUCK
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 This will be cool., looking forward to seeing the progress.
CometMan Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Nice project, Ken. Those look like Fred Cady decals.
carman1 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Cool project, I look forward to watching you work !
James2 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Looks like a good save. What is the problem with the 59 glass?I have simply hid the lower edge below the dash if that helps.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Always enjoyable to see an old gluebomb brought back to being a nice model. Good luck with this project.

The original AMT 59 Chevy glass is to wide. I have a vacu-formed front glass that will fit up until the vent windows, I would just have to make the vent glass its own piece.
BIGTRUCK Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 All body work done , new "A" frame finished and blended in, wide whites and parts box hub caps. Paint will be Dupli color Charcoal dark metallic .This body was in good shape except the windshield frame, nothing was sanded off so it will take a fair amount or foil work.
BIGTRUCK Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 Paint and clear on,let it cure good and polish it out. Thats 2 painted [ 60 Merc and this Buick ] may have to start another while waiting on these.
BIGTRUCK Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 Body is done chassis is done, but I have skirts painted up from a 59 Chevy that fit well. They are not the larger custom ones , just a normal pair that fit the wheel opening. Im not sure I want to glue the skirts on the body I just repaired because of skirts.
StevenGuthmiller Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Im not sure I want to glue the skirts on the body I just repaired because of skirts.Don't glue them.I put skirts on a '62 Ford & their just taped on from the back side with regular masking tape.I did it that way so that they could be easily removed later without damaging anything.By the way, the Buick is looking fantastic!! BIGTRUCK Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 Steven thats one beautiful Ford, the trim work ,the paint and that interior....perfect. Your idea with the tape is a way I can use the skirts with out destroying the rear quarters I just repaired. An idea so simple and I would never thought of it. thanks Ken

bbowser Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 One of my "grail" models, convert or hardtop (I really like fins ) Paint looks great, looking forward to the finish.
BIGTRUCK Posted November 20, 2016 Author Posted November 20, 2016 Pretty much done with this mild custom, my new bare metal sheet should deliver tomorrow, I need to lay down a strip starting on the front of the hood , down the entire driver side along the edge of the trunk and back along the passenger side to the front. One long nerve testing strip about 1/16th tall Add tail lights , glass ,mirrors , maybe a spotlight and skirts.
vintagercr Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Ken, it looks great! Good luck on the foiling
rickcaps55 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 That looks awesome I love the color combo man that dark gray makes any car look great no matter what year it is.!!!
progplastic Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Nice looking car, good build, its nice to see people saving the old glue bombs. I'm glad you explained the problems you had with the window and frame from the '59 Imp, as I had planed on trying to save a '59 Buick conver and a '60 Buick bubble top with 2 '59 Imps as a donor for the roof and glass as well.
BIGTRUCK Posted November 24, 2016 Author Posted November 24, 2016 I planned on getting this one done this morning,I had the glass all trimmed and ready to go... but I dropped the only vac-u-form windshield I could find and buy and roll chaired over it numerous times. When I found it on the floor it was split and scuffed, so until I find another glass I'm calling it done, and after all that foil..
oldnslow Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Just find a 59 chevy and swap the windshield.
BIGTRUCK Posted November 24, 2016 Author Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) Thats the original '59 Chevy frame I used ,it had to be narrowed to fit the Buick where it mounts. Frame to wide, glass to wide. AMT el camino glass to wide. Never tried the Revell '59, but I know if I get another Buick glass it will fit the modified Chevy frame. Problem is finding one with out Modelhaus. Edited November 27, 2016 by BIGTRUCK
StevenGuthmiller Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Thats the original '59 Chevy frame I used ,it had to be narrowed to fit the Buick where it needed to be mounted. Frame to work, glass to wide. AMT el camino glass to wide. Never tried the Revell '59, but I know if I get another Buick glass it will fit the modified Chevy frame. Problem is finding one with out Modelhaus.Just keep your eyes on Ebay. The glass from any of the AMT 1959 or 1960 GM annual kits should fit.Chevrolet Impala, Pontiac Bonneville or Buick Invicta. Steve
