tbill Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 started this the other night, first order of business was taking care of the 'fender flares' lol, have all the wheel lips re-done, filled some sink marks in the door area, and it is now in primer, will sand and re-check body work tomorrow probably. at this point the plan is a straight up stock build, most likely in sublime green......but that color could change by the time i actually spray something on it, lol.
72 Charger Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 So Tom what is wrong with the fenders ? I have not built one of the Revell Cuda's
tbill Posted December 18, 2016 Author Posted December 18, 2016 Dave, out of the box, the wheel trim looks like fender flares, they are quite prominent, so i sanded them down to where i thought they looked 'right'. have it in primer now, still needs some sanding, and not sure if i'm sticking with sublime green or not..........
randyc Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 May want to have a look at the windshield trim and drip rails. Pretty large. I went through and tried to file/sand/scrape them to a more accurate likeness. As think as the overdone wheel openings, one might think they could have made the window trims a little more delicate. rallye wheels are a bit thick in the middle as well.
426-Hemi Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 I'll have ti look at my kit of this one, as I haven't looked closely to it at all.... BUT if these same areas ARE "thick" I'll be doin' much the same as you did here........ I WILL say however, I THINK I'm changing my wheels on this kit from the Rallye's to the Magnum 500's, (something different on the '70 'Cuda for me, and I also think I'm going 440 6 barrel too! (engine goin' between the frame rails could change at the drop of my Mopar hat that sits atop my head! LOL)
tbill Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 finally got back to this the other day. i had been thinking of doing it sublime green, but just couldn't do it, wanted something a little different, but didn't know what. so, after what seems like forever, i settled on GM Dark Labyrinth Metallic, or tungsten if you prefer, lol, it's a dark gray metallic. i also opted for the silver hemi decals for the quarter panels. now, i'm undecided on interior color................ugh.....,but, here is where i am at now, thanks for looking, should have regular updates on this now.
tbill Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 a little more progress, engine bay is in body color and painted the chassis pan [which i may re-do], tried to emulate over spray underneath, but it's hard to do with a rattle can. thanks for looking....
72 Charger Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Looking good Tom IMO white for the interior . It would tie in well with the side stripe
Luc Janssens Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) a little more progress, engine bay is in body color and painted the chassis pan [which i may re-do], tried to emulate over spray underneath, but it's hard to do with a rattle can. thanks for looking.... You should only focus on the rocker panels, cuz on the rear the quarterpanel goes deeper (undercut?) then the floorboard, so technically one should simulate that with a piece of tape and spray over that. The longitudinal (enginebay framerails) should have a bit color from above, due to spraying the enginebay, Also think the factory painters sprayed with a 45° angel to cover the rockers and bottom of the fenders, rockers, and front and rear splash panels (panels below the bumpers) Someone who has been painting real cars in a factory setting will know for certain Edited January 6, 2017 by Luc Janssens
gtx6970 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Just as an FYI, Here is the bottom side of a typical Mopar from the muscle car years.
tbill Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 thanks for the input guys not going too technical with the spray pattern, just looking for the illusion i suppose. have been busy on this build, here are some progress pic's,
tbill Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 so, that's where i'm at so far, lot to do yet, but it's looking like something finally. thanks for looking.
gtx6970 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Outstanding work. I just picked up some paint for one of these this past weekend . Going to be Vitamin C orange Hemi auto . Replica of a good friends car
Crazed Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Great job on that interior, What are you using for the plug wires?
426-Hemi Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 NICE Work Tom! That 426 is looking really good! NICE job! Nice choice of body color too! its something different! NICE & SHINEY Too!
tbill Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 thanks guys Tim, plug wire material is from Detail Masters

High octane Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I'll have ti look at my kit of this one, as I haven't looked closely to it at all.... LOL)While the big block 383/440 or Hemi engine have LOTS of power, they're like "boat anchors" in a pony car like the 'Cuda. On a 1:1 car, just relocating the battery from the front of the car to the trunk, one can actually feel the difference in weight reduction.
microwheel Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Nice work Tom. Im my opinion this was one of revell's best kits. Even with the little re-works on the fenders.
Snake45 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Very clean work, very impressive! Drive on!
mustang1989 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Just look at the interior on that thing will ya??!! Awesome work with this Tom!! More please.......................
72 Charger Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) Loving it Tom that Shaker looks so realistic as does the dash Edited February 15, 2017 by 72 Charger
