Couldn't sleep so I went to the bench this morning and was able to get the one piece floorboard / firewall done. Made a paper template first and then made it from printing plate. Also cut the molded in kit's original seat out of the frame, added a back and bottom piece and raised it just a touch. Moved it a bit forward so the driver's head isn't right under the roll bar as it was originally. I'll get some gauges made along with a steering wheel shaft next. Had to put in an order to RB Motion for some rod ends. Here's a couple of pics.

Stay tuned.

Really like this thing! May have to find the series of them myself. There was a guys years back at Victorville that was turning the Willys into the SWC car.

Brad... as in mentioned in Paul's thread, I haven't been around here much lately and I got to tell you I am really digging this little build. Love seeing youbplaybwoth a brass chassis. This is going to his be a killer build.

I like it Brad and your initiative but I have to ask, why o' why would you go even smaller at 1/32?   I can't fathom it as I'm ready to jump up to 1/12th at some point in the future.  Your eyes must hurt.  cheers, tim

Rarely do I see anyone working in this scale. Granted, there isn't much to work with but these few kits are too cool not to put to good use. Besides, I wanted to see if I could do it.

Thanks for following along on this build Bob. Appreciate your comment and I think Monogram should dig these molds out of moth balls and put them to use.

Had a tremendously long bench session yesterday and was able to get the front axle done. I was waiting on some rod ends from RB Motion and once I checked the mail, I went into high gear. I radius rods are stainless steel tubing from RB Motion and I experimented with trying to solder them. That worked out perfectly although I had to re-solder each one three times because I would break the arm off trying to clean off the excess solder. I eventually get really good at it. Since I don't have any more of the small nuts and bolts, I use brass brads from a local doll store. They were cut in half, put in place and ground down to the proper length while in place so the burr would hold it in place. Enough yammerin', let's get to the pictures.

Hopefully more bench time today. As always, criticism and / or comments welcome.

Before I put the curved white sheet away for the makeshift photo shoot, I thought I'd take a picture along side a quarter to remind everyone how small this is.

Wish there were more available kits in this size, this scale is fun and doesn't take 10 months to build.  :-)

Thanks Chris. A bit of time at the bench over the weekend and got a few items completed. Made a butterfly wheel from brass rod and soldered to a small piece of brass tubing, got a brake pedal made, attached the seat and glued the floorboard / firewall in place. Seemed like some major accomplishments in my head but not so much when i list them here.  Huh??

Making a small aluminum gas tank from a couple of capacitors from an old circuit board. I already had one but it was too big. Tried a smaller one but it was too small. Had to make a third one. It take two of these capacitors to make one tank. I cut them apart towards the end so I can cover the seam with a thin strip of aluminum printing plate. I think you can see in the picture. The one on the right still needs the thin strip of printing plate. These get polished up with 400 and progressively smaller sanding sticks. Then I carefully put them in my drill and polish the ends so I get the concentric swirl.

that's all for now.

I remember when you were debating whether to plumb the injector lines. Of course you caved,

and now you're making metal tanks. In 1/32.

More awesome surprises to come, I'm sure.
