Jantrix Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 Hey GuysI'd love to join this build! All the builds so far are really cool & creative!I entered the first Cannonball run back when it was on Scale Auto (not sure of the history surrounding why its here & not there now, I only found this forum last year, but a quick look back reveals that its the same group) Ash welcome back to the Cannonball. We're happy to have you. The Cannonball left SA forums for two reasons. 1. Participation on that forum was on the decline. 2. SA admin took away the poll function that we use as "the race" at the end of the CBP every year. After a back and forth with their admin, it became clear they didn't care if we used their forum at all, so we moved it here. Looking forward to seeing the Subaru.
64SS350 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Trying to finish the other two builds, so in between I started prepping parts of the Camaro. Cleaned up the body and chassis, drilled out the axle and spindles to accommodate the C1 tires. Here's the stance so far.
MeatMan Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 Hey All. I finally got my 12 cylinder LS engine from Clearly Scale. Here it is washed and getting ready for cleaning up what little excess material remains and squaring things up. Ran into a problem with the body/chassis fit though. Even though the kit is one of those that JF recommends, the wheelbases don't line up. When I eyeballed it without the tires things looked okay, but when I mocked the wheels up things don't look so alright. The wheelbase of the Vette is shorter than that of the off-scale XLR. I'm trying to decide now on trying to alter the wheelbase of the chassis, or adjusting the body. Which makes sense because I'm using flares anyway, I just don't know if it will make it look like an AWB or something. Oh well, press on.
MeatMan Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 Well, after grinding the wheel wells and then mocking things up I realized that this build isn't going to happen. The vacuformed windshield would not fit with the dash installed. I don't see how this body would ever fit on a styrene kit unless everything was custom built to fit. So I'm changing my entry to the 2006 Camaro Concept. I bought it years ago when I first got back into models and lots of parts are missing including the engine. It will be wide-body as well, but I'm not sure if I'll still go with the V-12, as the XLR front end was longer and I felt it could accommodate the longer engine. I could use the Corvette engine since I'll be using a lot of those parts that would have gone on the XLR. Oh well. That's why I got started early to see if the XLR could be built. I think its going to be in the next 4th of July firecracker demonstration that the local kids give. They'll get a kick out of seeing it blow to pieces. Here's my new kit.
W-409 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Now when the body of my Turbine Car had been sitting for over a month in the paint stripping, It's pretty obvious that the copper paint is not coming off from the body. Now the paint looks like the car had been sitting for a long time abandoned somewhere. The body looks kind of cool like that, but as I don't have much experience in weathering models I guess I'll just sand the paint off and shoot a glossy coat of paint on this... Let's see.

It looks wicked like that! Fix the roof up with a new vinyl top and make it all new up underneath and inside! It looks awesome like that in my humble opinion. Of course it's not mine so do whatever you like, but I love the look of it.

Jhedir6 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 X2Very nice Bruce. X3.....leave it, a bada$$ beater will look great. Fix the roof posts, slam it down with some modern wheels/rubber and a a ratrod feel to the paint, should be sweet.
Lunajammer Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I love that patina and wish I could do it on command for another project. My gut feeling is go with it, but I can understand the obstacles since you still have body work to do.
W-409 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Thanks guys for the opinions! I was just thinking kind of the same thing, let's see if I can keep the paint like it is... The top will be no problem, but don't know about the side trim, BMF might be a bit too shiny compared to the rest of that body. But don't know if silver paint will look good either? It's not going to be slammed down though, and definitely no modern wheels (Old School Is Cool!). I'll be fitting a vintage tire & wheel combo on this.

Im also building Bumble Bee! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/119029-bumblebee-67-camaro/ Be careful with the C1 transkit, my front end didnt fit at all, had to be sliced in 3 & spacers added. The hood needed widening & the grill isnt a wide as it could be.. Cant wait to see more!!! My BRZ is coming along, Ive opened up some rather large holes for larger driving lights, pics soon. Ash

W-409 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Thanks Dominik! Your Mercedes looks really cool!I like how that trunk lid and hood look, I'd like to leave them like that since I pretty much don't know how to do that weathering stuff so I'm probably not going to get an effect like this in the future ever again. Anyway, I'm not too crazy about the rear fenders/ quarter panels and doors and how they look. I'm thinking if I put the body back on the paint stripper for a while so that only those rear fenders are in touch with that liquid it might look better in the end, because the body was most of the time upside down when I had it in the stripper. So, if I can create a better looking "patina" on those areas I will probably leave it like that. Even though I usually prefer shiny builds and sometimes it feels like I've seen a bit too many weathered models. But my chrome parts are not perfect either so they would fit well to the look... We'll see what happens.
Lunajammer Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 This looks very light and fast. I like what I'm seeing Dominik.
bill_67 Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Great work guys, I'm excited to see these builds moving along. I'm just posting some small updates pics for this month. Decided against using the stock chassis since this is more of a pro touring build, started modify a zr1 c6 chassis.

Check it out with some wheels on it.
bill_67 Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Nice chassis choice Bill but it looks a little short. Check it out with some wheels on it.Thank you for catching that, I went back and checked it this morning. I think what happened in picture the chassis was not straight in the body, plus that control arm is bent forward when the metal axle is in place it seems to straight out. Or at least the wheels seem to fit.
KWT Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Everybody's builds are looking awesome thus far. Slightly jealous of the skills you guys have... Definitely in aw... I'm trying to scrounge up all the pieces, or at least the material to build what I need. When I get it all together, i think I'll through my hat in the ring.
bill_67 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Got a little more accomplished before I head back to work, the ride height is about set and the engine/drivetrain is in. It's just taped together for now, I was pretty nervous and glad to see the height fit under the hood and engine didn't sit in the interior. Now the hard part, interior work on my next days off
Belugawrx Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Very nice cramming Bill !!That looks GGREAT
