Thanks for the feedback. The damage was done with the Tamiya tape. I laid that down first, then the traditional white stuff on top of that. The error is all mine-just wasn't patient enough. It will just add to the patina.

would have been super PO'd if this was a "shinny" build

I agree the patina is still in progress! ;)  This is weathering that looks like it took 20 years to happen ... wonderful!

That's looking really good! I used that same body on a build and had trouble with the hood, too. I used the old AMT 49 Merc hood on mine, after some cutting, filling, and puttying. It still has gaps at the rear corners, but I got tired of messing with it! Yours looks great!

Thanks Mike!

Thanks Sam!

The many layers of paint help hide the flaws lol. I always said that it's easy to mess up a perfectly good paint job, much harder to pull off a nice one. Any flaws still visible just add to the "look".

I remember your build-really liked how it turned out.

This is the first time that I’ve actually used the kit stock decals on a Woody build.  The ones from this kit were rather nice to work with.  All the same, I used some Micro Sol to make sure they stay in place.

I like how it looks right now, a far improvement over where things were at a day ago.  Still needs some more weathering to match the rest of the body…..

Finished weathering the wood last night – real please with the end result.  A few small items to detail paint, but the body is nearly completed.

Wow!

That chopped roof looks brilliant!

I just built one of these, but mine isn't this cool.

You aged it, really well. The effect is very realistic.

inspirational.

Thanks for the feedback.  I can’t take credit for the roof chop – but the lines certainly add character to the build.

Had no idea how the weathered wood was going to turn out, but I’m pleased how it looks now.  The last pic is my favorite.  Not sure why the others look so dark - they wee all taken in the exact same spot?

I’m always impressed on how many ways a Woody can be built – I’d love to see some pics of your build.  Can’t get enough of them Woodies!

Thanks guys!

The kids were sick this weekend, so progress has been limited.  Lucky enough to fit in some bench time after the kids were in bed.

My attempt at worn/weathered seats:

Yet another mock up with the wheels an tires mounted.  Small fitment issue with the resin body and wheels, but that is to be expected with mismatched aftermarket parts.  The kit stock brake backing plates are pushing out the wheels too far.  They will need to be modified and/or removed to get the wheels to fit properly.  Pretty lucky if that's all I need to do to solve this....

Other than the wheel offset issue, the stance is right where I want it!  Aggressively lowered, with a slight rake, and no scrapping!

Very realistic looking. What type of material did you use ?

Thanks for the feedback!

For the seats, I use diluted whit craft glue (like Elmer's) and facial tissue and left to dry.

Then I shaded in the nooks and cranny's with the airbrush.  Color coat after that, then more shading/highlights.  Used white and tan acyclic to simulate the seat foam poking through the set tears.  A light ink wash was applied to the wrinkles and left to dry. Tiny strips of real duct tape was used over the "tears".  Lastly, a light treatment of Tamiya's weather kit in the areas where the seats would be used the most.

I've seen other builders use this technique, so I thought I would give it a try. The end result was more aggressive than I hoped, so maybe next time I'll use paper towel instead of facial tissue.  It gets fragile real fast after it gets moist...

Didn't bother to try to simulate any springs of stuffing coming out - the doors won't open on this build.  Most of what's there now will be hidden once the interior panels are in place, but the effect is there.

Some really awesome work here Steve. Love the dash. Your weathering  skills on the wood look like you've beeng doing it for years.

Great build!

Haven’t touched this build in  awhile - the family and I have been battling a nasty bug the past week.

Final assembly has begun – still some detail work to be finished still.  Now we’re into the final stretch….
