MeatMan Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Hey All! Have any of you painted steel braided hose black to get the modern black hose look?I've compared two pics and they look identical except for the color and surface texture.I've read all of the recommendations for using braided products from Michael's etc. but I'm concerned about getting the AN fittings to work with those. Thanks for the help.
crazyjim Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I use hex shaped Japanese seed beads for AN fittings using either Sharpies or Tamiya clear paints for the color. Black fitting would be even easier to color.
MeatMan Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Thanks Jim. I've tried beads in the past but maybe I had the wrong kind. I'll give seed beads a look.
crazyjim Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Hex shaped Japanese seed beads is what you want to search for. I have 5 or 6 different sizes. I bought them in clear to paint easier, but they come in a variety of colors.
Casey Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 That's a good question. I don't think anyone is making the braided hose in a black color, but maybe you could try light coats of smoke tint (Testors?) and see if that achieves the desired effect. I think it might not be dark enough, though.

TarheelRick Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 This is available from Hobby Lobby for $1.99. I'm not really sure if they have other sizes, but I am heading down that way in a few minutes and I will look to see.
John Pol Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 you can also use braided fish line it comes in black for your fuel lines
astroracer Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Look for "dial cord" at your local electronics or radio/TV repair. I've used that stuff for many years. Pull out the inner thread and it is very flexible. The fishing line is great stuff also. It will be for fly fishing or spin casting.Mark
