Mopar - D Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Terry you have this one coming along nicely. I like your changes as this moves along.
Tesla Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Adding the diamond plate makes a huge difference...good call!
gatorincebu Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) Terry, I kinda figured you would put the diamond plate on the fenders . Looks great Do you have any pictures of how you did the front suspension and axles ? Be Well Gator Edited February 13, 2017 by gatorincebu

Looks great Do you have any pictures of how you did the front suspension and axles ? Be Well Gator Gator, this was as far as I could get with the photos I had at the time. Thanks to the post of the wrecker photo gallery, I can go a lot further with it. At this point it just a walking beam susp from a Paystar kit, and two Paystar steerable front axles.
gatorincebu Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Terry, Thanks for the pictures . I will have to try that ! DO you think it could be done with driven steerable axles ?? :-)) Like a mack hard bar suspension? Be Well Gator
Superpeterbilt Posted February 14, 2017 Author Posted February 14, 2017 Terry, Thanks for the pictures . I will have to try that ! DO you think it could be done with driven steerable axles ?? :-)) Like a mack hard bar suspension? Be Well GatorAnything is certainly possible Gator. I imagine that it wouldnt be any different than the driven axles at the rear except that they steer. I think it would be easier to do with top loader axles like the Rockwells that the military uses for front drive axles. Ive never understood why they dont use the same set up on highway trucks like the military does.

Superpeterbilt Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 After much consideration of Warrens suggestion to move the mixer unit back, I decided to extend the drum by an inch. I figured with this truck being the Hoss that it is, to justify the heavy suspension, bigger tires, and twin steer, it needs a bigger drum. This also allowed me to shorten another drum for an older style mixer build in the future. Heres the shorter drum and some leftover rings to extend another drum in the future. Maybe something like this.....
Tesla Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Good call on the drum stretch Terry...it looks great!
Warren D Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 The drum stretch looks better, proportions look better to the eye and as you said, it's a beast of a truck so load 'er up!
gotnitro? Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Now that's a mixer ! the stretch looks better from my chair too, the entire build looks more "balanced"
guitarsam326 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Definitely looks killer with the bigger drum Terry, good call!
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I like the bigger drum as well. Good call!
tbill Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 you are out of control....again....in a good way, looks killer so far! you guys amaze me with the seemingly 'out of thin air' builds.
gatorincebu Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Really like the larger drum ! Good call on that . I also like the look of the shorter drum as well . Be Well Gator
Superpeterbilt Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) I apologize for all of the small updates, but if I get a little done every day or so it might get finished! To help conceil the joints in the drum stretch, I wrapped the whole flat section of the drum in .020 styrene sheet. It worked like a charm! Edited February 20, 2017 by Superpeterbilt
gatorincebu Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 That stretch job looks good. The wrap is a great way to smooth it out and add strength to it as well > Be Well Gator
purepmd Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 What a really tough looking truck! Really like the twin steer setup, takes the cool factor to a whole new level. Very Well Done!
Superpeterbilt Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 I aquired some better reference materials that look more like the truck I wanted to build in my head, as opposed to the other photos I was using. This configuration is much better. I purchased these photos from the ATHS.
Tesla Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 These photos are certainly helpful with the details. Can't wait to see the progress!
