Ace-Garageguy Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) The well wishes and donations have tapered off to almost nothing, but you know what? Harry is very alone and very very sick. He gave selflessly of his time and talent here for many years, keeping the forum organized, working, and riding herd on the troublemakers. He inspired many of us with the beautiful models he built, and was in large part instrumental for making the magazine what it is.He logs on here occasionally, but I understand he usually doesn't feel well enough to post. WE NEED TO KEEP WRITING THE WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT HERE SO HE CAN SEE THEM, AND WE NEED TO KEEP SENDING DONATIONS TO HIS FUND, WHATEVER YOU CAN AFFORD.Let's show him we haven't forgotten him. restoman Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Donation sent. Thanks for the reminder Bill.
Miatatom Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 Payday is Wednesday. I'll hit it again then. I hope everyone would give just a little, whatever you could afford. I've never met Harry but I'll tell you this, I've been back in this hobby for about 5 years now and easily 95% of the knowledge I've gained in that time is because of the MCM Forum. If you feel like I do about this forum, you've got to admit it's worth something.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 Come on people...PLEASE dig deep and lets get some momentum going here. For those who may not know the entire story, Harry Pristovnik is a long-time moderator here and a builder of very fine models. He gave of his time for FREE for years to help keep this site going and running smoothly. He also worked tirelessly as editor and doing layout work for the magazine itself. Not long ago, he was diagnosed with cancer (after having severe night-time pain). He began improving with the radiation treatments, but when he started chemo, it triggered a massive heart attack. He almost died, and since then, he's literally been fighting for his life. His insurance hasn't been much help, and he can't work to generate income. He's also alone much of the time, and is fighting depression.WE ARE HIS EXTENDED FAMILY, and WE ALL NEED TO GET ON BOARD AND SHOW HIM HOW MUCH WE REALLY CARE.This is a man who's given a LOT to the modeling community...and as Tom said, now is the time to show some appreciation.PLEASE GIVE WHATEVER YOU CAN GIVE. It's easy on any credit card, only takes a few minutes, and it's 100% legit and secure. https://www.gofundme.com/2pndgj5w
JTalmage Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 I just dropped in a donation. Get well soon Harry.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 It's wonderful to see that several people have made contributions to Harry's gofundme cancer account recently, and even the smallest ones are MUCH appreciated and go to help Harry in his fight for life. But come on the rest of you...this is about helping to save someone's life, and the someone is a guy who's done a ton for the modeling community and for this site and for every single person who ever saw his models and was inspired.Every little bit helps, so PLEASE CONTRIBUTE WHATEVER YOU CAN. It's quick and easy on any credit or debit card and is 100% safe. https://www.gofundme.com/2pndgj5w
Miatatom Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Thanks for the reminder, Bill. Just donated again. If any of you feel like I do, I hope you can give something. Never have met Harry but I've gotten so much knowledge from this forum and Harry is the main guy that makes it happen. So, please give.
mikemodeler Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 I received some news today that will be positively changing my financial situation so I will be sure to send some more money to Harry and encourage everyone to do the same. If you grab lunch out everyday, brown bag some leftovers or a PB&J sandwich and donate what you would have spent on lunch for a day or two a couple of times a month and help make a difference in Harry's life. I have never met him in person, but have gotten to know him and feel like we have been friends for years and think he would do the same for me.I personally will be buying fewer models this year, but hope that we all can divert the cost of a kit or two into Harry's fund and really help him.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 You guys who have donated the last few days are the greatest, and Harry's fund is growing. I'm sure if he looks in on it, he'll feel better knowing that he has so many generous and caring friends. As I write this, I see there are about 150 people viewing the board. Mikemodeler has a very good idea..."If you grab lunch out everyday, brown bag some leftovers or a PB&J sandwich and donate what you would have spent on lunch for a day or two a couple of times a month and help make a difference in Harry's life."That's not too much to ask to give back to someone who's given so much of his time, skill and talent to all of us. Please give whatever you can. Even $5 will help Harry to know he's not alone in his fight for his life. It's easy to donate on any credit card, it only takes a few minutes, and it's 100% safe.https://www.gofundme.com/2pndgj5w
oldcarfan Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Can someone re-post the info on the fund here? Never mind, I just saw it! https://www.gofundme.com/2pndgj5w
MoparWoman Jamie Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 You do know that gofundme.com takes a chunk of the donations right? I hope the very best for Harry and hopes he recovers soon. I too love seeing his builds on here.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 (edited) You do know that gofundme.com takes a chunk of the donations right? I hope the very best for Harry and hopes he recovers soon. I too love seeing his builds on here. They only take 5%. That's a nickel out of a dollar. Pretty good deal if you ask me.To put it another way, for every $100 Harry gets, gofundme only gets $5.There is also a 2.9% WePay (like PayPal, but different) processing fee, plus 30 cents per donation. So for every $100 donated to Harry's account, a full $91.80 goes directly to Harry.
