Dave Van Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Mopar only shows allow me to attend as a twice removed cousin????
Greg Pugh Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I'm just as much a Chevy guy as I am a Mopar guy but I definitely LOVE Mopars. My high school car was a '69 Coronet 440 2 door hardtop. I've also owned a '69 Roadrunner, THREE '65 Plymouth Satellites, and a '55 Coronet 2 door hardtop. My all time #1 dream car would be a '58 Belvedere. Here is my latest two. The '55 I sold about a year and a half ago and my current '65 Satellite 426 Wedge 4-speed.
10thumbs Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 (edited) At one time my Dad had a 1965 Dart GT convertible with the 273 and 3 on the tree. I tell you what.......from a standing start that sucker would literally snap your head and throw you back into your seat! I had read somewhere that of all the small block V8's made in the '60's, the Mopars had the quickest 0-60 times of all for their cars. I can believe it! Hi Bill. The 273's in an A Body moved well initially, true. Our family grocery getter, 65 Valiant 100, 273 3spd, tree shifter could actually smoke the tire with ease! Read, just a peg leg though, but the car was a thrill for me as a kid! The Mopars can make good steam and still be streetable and very durable if built correctly. They are not easy to build, but they work. I like especially the plain janes with steel rims and nut cups. Edited March 5, 2017 by 10thumbs
PARTSMARTY Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Again to reiterate what's been said Mopars are the best. !!!
dieseldog1970 Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 (edited) Why do I love MOPAR so much? Simple.......the low numbers, the High Impact paint, and that four letter word that strikes fear in any other manufacturer....HEMI...banned in NASCAR and NHRA for pushing the envelope on engines and bodies.....even to this day...(DEMON!)....nuthing better in my opinion!! One MOPAR tattoo so far....and plans for another...daughter is a huge fan as well (can tell the sound of my straight piped 12v Cummins from a block away!!).MOPAR OR NO CAR! One MOPAR tattoo so far....and plans for another...daughter is a huge fan as well (can tell the sound of my straight piped 12v Cummins from a block away!!).MOPAR OR NO CAR!What you said Curt! Also, Chrysler is the ONLY "American" manufacturer out there now that still offers a full size REAR WHEEL DRIVE car (Challenger, Charger, 300C), while the others have or are about to give them up. Chevy had a good thing with their Chevy SS, but that was nothing more than a rebadged Australian Holden and waaaaay expensive! They're about to quit making them (or have done so already), so that leaves Chrysler as the only one out there that gives us gearheads that like RWD in a bigger package something to relate to. I've given up on Ford ever coming out with something similar. They stopped making the Crown Vic, and had nothing to replace it 'cept the FWD Taurus. While it's not a bad car, I hate the proportions on the thing which is what bugs me the most about FWD cars.I'd like to see RWD cars make a bigger comeback than they have...........trucks/SUV's are OK, but personally I'm not a fan of them as I don't care for vehicles that sit up so high.
Dodge Driver Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 (edited) I'd like to see RWD cars make a bigger comeback than they have.....As would I. I'd love to buy the 21st century equivalent of the '68 Road Runner. Maximum performance in a no-frills package is what I want in a car (that I don't drive daily).V8 trucks are fun, but there's too much under/oversteer when a truck is pushed, for my performance-driving taste. 6bblbird Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Thought it would be fun to include a pictorial history of my favorite Mopars in order. My first car. 1968 383 ,4 spd. 2nd car. 1974 440 GTX road runner. I loved this car! I sold the '74 in order to buy this 440 six pak Challenger: And I bought this '68 to tow it with: When this A 12 car came up for sale in '76 I had to buy it! Still have it and it is undergoing a total nut and bolt restoration. I added the Super Gas 'cuda in 1986 2007: 2009: 2013- today: Yeah, I guess I like Mopars!

I guess you do like Mopars, and you have owned a nice bunch of them. I myself prefer the B-bodies as I just love dem Mopars!
JollySipper Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Wow, Walter! You have an A12 car.....! That's probably THE muscle car
DeeCee Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Down my end of the world, everybody is either GM ( Holden) or Ford..... not me, it is MOPAR !! Been down the other track, but all i have had for a long time now is Mopars. I love the fact they dared to be different, and powerful. I have 2 Aussie Mopars, and a Jeep as my daily too.. THANK YOU MOPAR
Tom Geiger Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Dale, I've always loved the VCs since my first car was a 1966 American Valiant. I have a bucket list with to import a VC Ute here someday.
Nick Winter Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 This is going to be long winded, for that I'll apologize now folks... For me, the Mopar Community is something that is a large part of my life and has been for 5 years now, It has brought me experiences and friends I wouldn't have otherwise. Some of the best people I've ever met have have the Blue "M" on a piece of clothing they own. At the moment, I own 3 Mopars, my beloved 1969 Plymouth Fury III Convertible which I have owned since 2013, my 1973 Plymouth Fury I sedan which i have owned since March of 2015 and my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 which I bought In February, in between I have also owned another '69 Fury III Convertible and a '69 Fury I sedan.I have bought and sold 12 Mopar engines, 3 Mopar transmissions, 7 Mopar rear diffs, 14 sets of Mopar rims, and countless other parts, the vast majority of what has been mentioned I still have......yes I hoard Mopar parts... I attend 4 Mopar only shows a year, this year I've made arrangements to go to Pa in July for Chrysler at Carlisle, next year I'd like to go to the Chrysler Nationals as well...I drove 2500 miles to NC and back, 6 states in 5 days for a set of fenders for one of my Mopars....during that trip my Fiance and I spent time with 8 different Mopar friends I have made, most of which were kind enough to show us some form of hospitality during our journey... In my years of being a part of that community I've seen so many acts of kindness to help out your fellow Mopar owner (a few examples I can think of are seeing guys broken down on the side of the highway on our way to Moparfest, and stopping to see if we could help only to find out someone else had stopped already and had gone back to get their truck and trailer to load the guys car and haul it for him, two guys that before that had never met, another time we were at Mopar Day and a fellow blew out the U joint straps on his Dart, someone had a set and they worked on it in the pits and got him back ready to go so he could drive home). The people I've met have always been very kind and willing to help one another, whether it be with parts, knowledge, support, or even just by being there. Now onto the cars themselves.......why I truly love them..Somewhere deep down in my sub conscious the love existed long before I knew it........these cars just give off vibes for me....When I was 5 I first saw the 73 Fury I would own a mere 15 years later, I saw it and those lines and shapes just instantly stuck with me deep in my memory........Mopars have always had some of the most beautiful character lines and body stylings of the big 3 IMHO.....when I bought the '69 convertibles in 2013 the first time I saw them I fell in love, the shapes, the character, the stance, the width, it just hit me right, the first time I slid in behind that curved low windshield and saw those cascading fenders and beveled hood lines I was sold.......over the years I've grown to love those lines more and more....The way they run..and drive...those T bars.......that thumpy sound that they all have, even when stock.......theres just something special.....different..............they handle and ride like no other..... Everytime I drive my '73 I have a permanent smile, its just so raw and unrefined, its tough, its rugged, yet its comfortable and confident, its strong yet gentle, and its just plain bold..... Chrysler engineers created some of the coolest and best engineered features during the automobiles development..... Those drivelines........225, 273, 318, 340, 360, 361, 383, 392, 400, 413, 426, 440.......need I say more? Gear reduction starters.....a sound like no other........ Elastometric bumpers, Thermoquad carburetors, Pentastar keys, MaxWedge, Sonoramic, Sure-Grip, Track Pak, Tic-Toc-Tac, Six-Pak, Scat-pack, Rallye, Left hand thread studs, Rapid Transit System, Tuff Wheel.......... its hard to explain......you either get the feeling or you don't... Thats my 2 cents worth.... Nick I forgot, when we heard that the Walter P. Chrysler museum was closing, we drove down the day before and spent a few hours seeing it all, its an experience I'm BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH glad I got to have..
Dodge Driver Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I have a real affinity for the K-code C-Bodies. All the performance goodies in a plain-Jane sedan. Too bad so many were destroyed for the sake of Hollywood spectacle.I really hope to find a '72 Fury (ex PA state police) to replicate our erstwhile family sedan.
High octane Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I was lucky enough to visit the Chrysler Museum in 2002 after attending the Toledo NNL that same weekend. It was a great experience.
MrObsessive Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Every time I see the front end of one of these, it instantly reminds me of my Dad's car. Albeit his was a '57, both years were 'bout identical save for the '58's quad headlights and lower grille. No mistaking that for anything but a Plymouth! Mopar can also be commended for having their entire '57 line look the way they did. It can be safe to say that had they not done that, GM's '59 line could have appeared very different than they did. Same goes for Ford as they scrambled to intro their all new '60 line, after a one year deal with their '59's.
NYLIBUD Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Is that one of the pre-painteds? I have one of those around here somewhere and I think it's about the same color. I really dig that murdered-out Dart, too. I gotta build something like that--very very soon! Yeah,it is the pre painted Duster. But I just added the racing stuff.
10thumbs Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Yeah,it is the pre painted Duster. But I just added the racing stuff. Could you explain?Do you mean the green Duster is pre-painted? Then you just added some racing stuff, like wheels? Did you build the model at all? Just curious. Very and extremely cool. Love the stance.Any details about the build? Like the front end.Very curious. Again, what a cool model.Any insight?

Tom Geiger Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 It was the summer of 1968. My US military family had come back to the USA after three years in Turkey. My mother, sister and I were to stay stateside. My father had 30 days to get us situated before reporting for 18 months in Korea. Part of that was to buy a car for my mother. We left the last one in Turkey. So he found the most reliable bullet proof car he could find on short notice. That was a 1966 Valiant V100 2 door sedan with a 225 slant six. It had 11,000 one owner miles on it. I remember driving home with this new car that day. And I can say from that day forward I was a Mopar guy. Being in the USA during the 1968 model year through the 1970 model introduction, I was all about cars. The Chrysler advertising was fantastic in this era, and enough to capture the imagination and loyalty of small car crazy boys. In the fall of 1969, we headed out of the country again and brought the Valiant to Germany. We drove it all over Europe and I have pictures of it in the Swiss Alps. It returned to the US with us in 1972 and retired from being the main family car, so it was the second car that my mother drove around town. In 1975 it became my first car. I held onto it for many years. That was the start of a long line of Mopars for me. I had several to many Valiants and Barracudas, as well as other Mopar models. Even into the modern car era, I owned three Dodge Caravans, two Plymouth Breezes and a PT Cruiser convertible today. I remember being a Mopar guy in high school wasn't easy. It was all Ford and Chevy back then. I graduated in 1976 and always was the odd man out. But on the good side, back then Mopar parts were cheap and I could load up on those little blue boxes at car shows. Still, I had my nicely painted '66 Valiant and another '66 Valiant V200 Signet with a 273 that would leave the Camaros in the dust. Even when I got my first Barracuda it was "just a fancy Valiant". Then I woke up one day and everyone was into Mopars! All of them proclaiming that they had been fans since birth! When did this all happen?!

That car could fly and got me in trouble a few times. I still have the paperwork on it from the sale, but I really shoulda kept the car instead. I'm still a big Mopar fan even though I like all cars, especially American cars.
