I am looking for suggestions on my first spray booth for model cars. I'm just starting to build a few kits again and I would like a serviceable booth. In college I used a plastic tub with a bathroom fan bolted to the back but I've been reading that might be hazardous due to fume ignition. I've seen the folding portable booths on eBay and Amazon for around $70. Are these good? I don't mind building one but don't want to invest more than about $70 or so.

Many tips appreciated.

Thanks,

Jed

I have one of those folding one, I got from E Bay. I got the accessories with it. I have used mine for well over a year and Im very happy with it.

I duct taped all the edges and that stiffened it up a lot. (I dont move mine at all). I tape paper inside to keep everything clean.

I clean out the filters and change the paper every time I paint a body or it starts to have dried paint floating around.

Highly recommended

If you're handy with tools just a little bit , you can build one yourself , I used an old projector screen tv cabinet I saw put out in the trash , gutted it , sealed the bottom of it , put in a false floor of peg board and added an old bank vacuum blower as an exhaust fan , the exhaust is ducted outside ,  mounted a light and a turn table in it and it's worked out great .

I made my own using a roll top bread box, adding a filter, duct and light to the box. I purchase a 6" inline Hydroponics fan/blower that puts out around 450 cfm. I can spray anything I want with no over spray or smell in the room.

If you only use acrylics that $70.00 unit will probably work out fine. But  if you were to ever go lacquer , enamel , or ureathane I certainly wouldn't trust it. You can't put a price on health, but there are people that surprise me all the time. I think John Wayne had a saying about them.
