I have the Cobra and several of the 53 Fords already, but I'll buy if it encourages them to dig out other old molds and rehab them. The box art looks like a 2 axle trailer. I can use that for something for sure!

Now if they would just massage the Cobra body a bit (USRRC/FIA) or better yet spring for a new mold.  The original/current is of 1963 vintage.  Even the engine is a Ford 260 rather than a proper 289.

The reason for this is that AMT kit is based on one of the first 75 Cobras that was equipped with a 260. It's actually a quite accurate representation since it also has the correct steering gear and flat steering wheel as well as the lack of fender vents.

Oh, I've no doubt that it represents what it is.  Its just that the legend and accomplishments were made by the 289 in its various body configurations and THAT'S what I'd like to be able to model.  Besides, what 50+ year old molding isn't prime for a re-do?

The Cobra kit may be over 50 but it still builds up nice. Takes a lot of sanding to get the tops of the front fenders right though. Only thing not from the kit on mine is the tires.

Interesting artwork!  See that there is a '55 era Chevy pickup in the back corner.  Note that AMT didn't have that pickup back when this kit came out. But now they do and the pickup / Willys pair could be done.   Also is that a Revell Anglia in the shot.   This was probably before that kit was done also.

Actually the first 75 Cobras all had 260s. And there is little if any diffence outwardly between a 260 and an early 289. Later 289s had the oil filler moved from the timing cover to the rocker cover, and in 65 went from a 5 bolt to a 6 bolt bellhousing. The 66 Mustang kit is where the oil filler issue is a bigger problem.

I agree the collectors will be mad with the reissues of these two but bring em on ! The real value of any of these kits is building them ! I am looking forward to building a few of the Petty haulers with fictional Petty Ford race cars that he could have raced had he stayed with Ford!

....I do as well, and I hope when they release it it's just packed with lots of goodies, making it more sellable and exciting  with maybe a card board back drop  display, killer decal sheet, loads of tire's, and even other new ideas that would make it quite special.....regardless, owning one upon its release is mandated for me.....the Ace...;)

X2 !

Fellas,

Wouldn't it be great to see some of the FRED Cady type decals 1983.thumb.jpg.b24ff3829f1a1919bf7c51779
