Slotto Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Just entered the arena. So far, the block is assembled along with the heads, valve covers and water pump. They have all been painted. Body has been primered.Planning on copper as the color. Stay Tuned...
DumpyDan Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Good kit Steve, I am in the process of building the same kit but heavily customized should finish after the one I am working on. Keep it going Steve it is looking good
Slotto Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 Kool. You gonna foil ALL that chrome !?yeah. I made a sheet of foil and am going to give it a spin. Tulio has a great tutiorial on youtube on how to make it. So between the foil and a pen I should be able to get it done.
espo Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Off to a good start. It looks like you found one of the earlier reissues with minimal flash on the body.
misterNNL Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Nice project.I remember when these cars were new in the dealerships. That was when I was a sophomore in high school. After the '57 was so popular this completely new design was a real shocker. They really a love it or hate it thing.Personally I loved them.keep up the good work.
Slotto Posted July 16, 2017 Author Posted July 16, 2017 Slow going. I was looking for a decent copper paint at the auto parts store and I found some for high heat situations. For giggles I thought I'd experiment on a scrap body just in case it started to eat away at the plastic. It sprayed a little heavier than lacquer and dried just as quick. This is just one application with one round of future. I think I can work with this. Also dragged a chrome pen across the exhaust manifolds and the pipes. Stay Tuned...
Slotto Posted July 17, 2017 Author Posted July 17, 2017 Got some color on today. This is before the buff and shine. High Heat copper lacquer with a creamy tan enamel on the top. Interior will be the same enamel color. Stay Tuned...
Lowlife ! ! Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Love those 58 Impalas, such a beautiful car ! I like the colours you've chosen too, should look great !
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Looks great! I've always loved copper. Looks great on nearly every car! "Sierra Gold" was the copper color on the '58 Chevy. Looks pretty close to what you used here. Steve
Lovefordgalaxie Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 yeah. I made a sheet of foil and am going to give it a spin. Tulio has a great tutiorial on youtube on how to make it. So between the foil and a pen I should be able to get it done. Starting to think BMF compeny is going to get me killed for that. On the car, I would go with the stock hubcaps and wide whites, specially with so close to factory colors, but that's me.
Slotto Posted July 21, 2017 Author Posted July 21, 2017 I agree stock wheels and esp fat white walls would look good but I'm a street rodder.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 On the car, I would go with the stock hubcaps and wide whites, specially with so close to factory colors, but that's me. I agree. I built my Revell '58 in a similar color combo. It looks like a copper color, but it's called "Cay Coral". Still one of my favorites! Steve
gtx6970 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Ive got both an AMT later issue hardtop and an original issue convertible near the top of my to do list. I was thinking something along the lines of a copper with a 2 tone copper and white interior on one or the other . I'm gonna have to watch this one
Jantrix Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Looking great. I like the stance and the tires are on point for a street rod, but the rims are a bit dated. Very 1995. Maybe some five spokes?
Lovefordgalaxie Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 I agree. I built my Revell '58 in a similar color combo. It looks like a copper color, but it's called "Cay Coral". Still one of my favorites! Steve Today, we look at rods built in the '80's and '90's and think they look dated and odd. Factory stock never looks dated or odd. It's timeless good taste.

Slotto Posted July 25, 2017 Author Posted July 25, 2017 Did a light sanding with 5000 then sprayed on a coat of Minwax Polyeurothane. It dried within 12 hours. Any suggestions to smooth things out? Mothers?
