dino246gt Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) I've pulled my old, kit out of storage, I built it decades ago and rather poorly at that, but it is a great kit with excellent details, that I can improve on now. So has anyone else built, or rebuilt this old kit? Any suggestions, pictures, tips??? Edited August 31, 2017 by dino246gt trying to attach picture
M1ks Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Wow, 1/12, I remember seeing these years ago and wishing I could afford one, I'd forgotten about them. Can't help with anything but I look forward to seeing it being revived.
maysula Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Hi.I built this kit many years ago, I think the kit is great ! Plenty of room for detailing. If I built it today , I probably added much more stuff :-) Thomas
dino246gt Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Thanks for all the pictures, looks great!I've got mine mostly apart and staring the restoration with wheels, tires and that gorgeous V12!Progress pictures soon, cheers!
dino246gt Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 (edited) Okay, here's where I am so far on the engine re-build. Started to wire the alternator and starter but just started. Used a couple of 1/24th decals just for interest, they are nowhere near accurate, but they do look pretty cool. It's more work re-building a glue bomb than starting a new kit, but it sure is fun in 1/12th scale! Edited September 5, 2017 by dino246gt same picture 3 times
dino246gt Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Here's the wheels and tires, I got some 1/12th valve stems, and used 3D stickers for the wheel centers, then put chrome rings around them, also peel and stick, then I used the Molotov chrome fine tip pen for the lug nuts followed by Tamiya black panel line wash. The rims themselves are sprayed with Metalizer Aluminum plate. Tires, because they are used, were soaked in dish detergent, then scrubbed with a toothbrush. I think they came out pretty good!
NYLIBUD Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Absolutely flawless.Great job.Love the car,and the color.
dino246gt Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 Got a bit more done to the engine, having so much fun with this one! Slow going though, but that's okay.
MrObsessive Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Dennis that Lambo engine is beautiful! With all this talk of Lambo Countachs, I wonder if my next build should be that Fujimi EM kit!
moparfarmer Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Lookin real good Dino..Not into this genra but it sure looks like the real deal..Add oil and crank her up..
dino246gt Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 The "glass" in my kit is clear blue, not clear, but I think I can make replacements for most of it, the headlights though, well I found that the 1/24th rallye lens from the Subaru kit that I bought for $2 as a parts donor has come to the rescue!
Twokidsnosleep Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Beautiful engine work so far for sure Thomas posted a gorgeous blue Countach, wow that paint is nice
dino246gt Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 (edited) Did a bit more work on the engine rebuild, well I rebuilt the carbs, yes they were glued with the old tube glue and not sparingly. Plus they were brush painted with Testors bottle enamel! I broke many pieces but that was expected, as I planned to make my own replacement parts, which I've done to the linkages and fuel lines, so far. There's a lot more to go, and that's all to be scratch built, using broken kit parts and internet photos for patterns and references. All of this so far is really only the base since once in that engine bay, only the stuff that isn't made yet will really show, this is all for fun so far and it sure is fun!! Cheers! dino246gt Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 I had to make my own decals as this kit didn't provide any, and I searched and searched the internet, there's no decals for it, so I made my own. Something that I've always wanted to do but was a bit leery, however, it's quite simple so now I will be making more! If ANYONE ELSE is building this kit, I've made extras of those air box decals.
Renegade Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Looks good so far. Have one I built years ago. Was never happy with the paint. When I get a little more work space I would like to rebuild it. Will be watching your build.
peteski Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 The engine looks good (I especially like the air filter decals - nice touch), but there is one thing that bugs me: the line where the bell housing halves meet. On the real car that area is smooth.
dino246gt Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 Peteski, that will all be under the interior tub, so I didn't bother with smoothing it, maybe I should've, and I still can!.
dino246gt Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 I've managed to install the engine, after getting the suspension put together, still a long way to go, but that only means a lot more fun ahead! Next up, wire the fan motors, add the oil pump and lines, detail up, or scratch build the coils and wiring:

Twokidsnosleep Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Interested to hear about making your decals and what you used.I tried some Testors Inkjet Decal paper and it was a nightmare or runs and tares...and tears
dino246gt Posted November 9, 2017 Author Posted November 9, 2017 The decal paper is called Experts Choice, by Bare-Metal Foil Co. it's on clear and for laser. I also brushed some Microscale liquid decal film over them before I used them, they worked great and I got real fine resolution for tiny print!

dino246gt Posted November 12, 2017 Author Posted November 12, 2017 Did the coils, wired the fan motors, made some fittings and hydraulic hoses for the oil pump and mounted all that. Made a dipstick and tube, that's on, so the only things left on the engine are the "dryer hoses" from the air boxes and the throttle cable to the gas pedal. Those are being made but can't be installed until the body is on. That won't be for some time, a long time! For now though, here's the engine!
