kelson Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Hello, this is my next build, years ago in the other magazine Tim Boyd did an article about building mainstreamers instead of the HiPo versions. So that's my plan for this Vette it's going to be the L46 350/350Hp smallblock car. The smallblock hood was taken from a 3 car trio called the Ultra rods I think,i sanded off the door locks and handles,i'm going to use the P.E set for that. To complete the base look,i'm going with the deluxe wheelcovers and factory side exhaust.

kelson Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 So far I've managed to plug the holes on the chassis where the exhaust/mufflers go and the holes where the frame crossmember goes,i have 3 days off now so I can get some work done.
geewhiz Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Nice start to this Vette, Curtis!!! Nice change from a pavement pounder!!!?
kelson Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 I also decided to use the luggage rack out of AMT'S 72'LT-1 convertible,i'm going to paint my Vette Fathom Green i'm just waiting for the paint to arrive next week.

Snake45 Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Very cool! Don't think I've ever seen a '69 Vette in Fathom Green, which is a cool color. Had to check to make sure it was available on Corvette that year. It was. I KNOW I've never seen a model of one, so, drive on! I have that '69 kit molded in orange. I'm going to build it soon and I'm going to polish the plastic, just because I don't have any other orange polished plastic models. I need it for my rainbow set. I also have the Revell 3-car set with the small block hood, but have never opened it so didn't know it was molded in yellow. Cool! I might do that one in polished plastic, too. I'll be following this with interest. I must own a dozen copies of various iterations of the Revell '68-'69 Vettes but the only one I've ever actually built was the Baldwin Motion one. Great start, drive on!
skid896 Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Looking forward to seeing this build, cool car and I like the colour choice.
Ron Hamilton Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I love those cars. I like where you are going with that one.
kelson Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 So i'm still working on the Vette, just some stubborn sink marks on the dash that are giving me fits, the chassis is painted with hot rod primer grey floor boards and the frame is painted semi gloss black, with a steel gas tank. The body was painted Fathom Green last week,it just needs polishing out now, hopefully have more to post over the next few days,as I have most of the parts painted and ready to assemble.

Looking good! Fathom green was one of my favorite colors. Heads up though, that isn't the fuel tank. It's the battery box and storage compartment. It would be gray fiberglass as well. The fuel tank is actually above the spare tire carrier.
Modlbldr Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 (edited) Wow! Nice work that you are doing with this one. I'm glad I came across this thread. Last night I dug this same kit out for something to work on because I was stalled on my other projects. I managed to get the body cleaned up and foiled the emblems. I was curious about the colors for the chassis, and here is yours.... I'm thinking of Gold or light metallic green for mine. Going to prime tomorrow. Later- Edited January 2, 2018 by Modlbldr
espo Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Nice to see a more main stream type Corvette. I think there are more models of big block Corvettes built than Chevrolet ever produced.

Modlbldr Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 How is this project coming along? I just painted mine yesterday. Did it in Testors Inca Gold. I figured that, with that shade, even after priming if the orange bled through it wouldn't be the end of the world. Looking forward to seeing your progress. I'll be posting mine soon. Later-
kelson Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Hello everyone i'm making progress on my Vette, the body has been foiled,i used Bmf masking on the front and back emblems but they were to shallow and didn't show up very clear when I cleaned them with thinner.I have the photoetched set for the Vette and I probably should've used it.still have a little cleanup to do
kelson Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Okay now onto the frame/engine,i couldn't think of a good small block 350,then I remembered the incorrect 70' 350 LT-1 in the 69'Nova kit.So I used the block, heads, oil filter and starter and valve covers, the intake and oil pan were from the parts box,so was the air cleaner. The wheel covers are from the 70'Impala and I used some old Shabo dry transfer lettering on the tires.
kelson Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Lastly the interior,it still needs touching up,i used Tamiya wooden deck tan for the interior, and Vallejo black wash for the shifter/console area and Tamiya matt Black for the upper area. You cant see it on the dash but I drilled out the smaller gauges and will use the decals I bought from Best model car parts for a cleaner look. You can see on the dash I couldn't properly fill in the sink marks
slusher Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Really looking great Curtis. Ivreally like your color choices!!!
Modlbldr Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 That is looking fantastic Curtis. I like the work you are putting into this. Mine is coming along. I'll have the interior finished today. I need to get this finished up and move on to my next project. I got a few started projects from a buddy yesterday that I like the ideas of. Later-
kelson Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 Well the plan today was to post some finished pics of my Vette, but we've all experienced this,i dropped the model and pieces went everywhere.Worst of all I chipped and scratched the paint where starting all over is my only option. But at least I can go back and fix some areas I wasn't happy with.
