69 Corvette 427

I began this one recently and am having a blast with it. The kit was molded in orange, so I decided to paint it in a color that if the orange bled through it wouldn't matter much. So, I painted it in Testors Inca Gold.

Today I got the final coats of clear on it. Now to let it sit for a while and get the chassis and interior done. Going to do a Saddle Tan interior.

Thanks guys for the encouragement. I took a couple pics just now to show the difference between the actual paint color and the body with the orange plastic bleeding through the primer and paint. Kind of glad it did. Makes for an interesting color.

I've noticed that some of the Testor colors can look quite different depending on what kind of primer they're over. Icy Blue comes to mind. 

Very soon I'm going to try their Fiery Orange over black primer and see if it looks passably close to '68 Corvette Bronze. It'll be a semi-custom car, like yours, so it won't really matter if it's not a perfect match. 

Yours looks quite nice in that color, BTW.

Thank you very much guys for the nice comments. This has been a fun build so far and I am very happy with the color. I spent lunch time yesterday painting chassis and suspension parts. Still have some touch ups to do but should be able to begin assembly today.

The paint was bought many years ago  at a local store that deals in hunting and fishing gear and has a huge toy section with a large selection of mainline (Revell mostly) models and paints. I bought it when this Testors line came out. All the LHS we're charging $5 and this place was $2.98. Because of that, I bought most of my paint there. It sat in my unheated garage for years until it started leaking at the bottom. I wasn't sure this can was going to work but it gave me a full can worth and sprayed great. I still have a few cans of various colors left.

I dig the color on this Vette! I don't think the orange styrene bleeding through is changing the shade since most of the models I've seen painted with this paint look just like your Vette does. That is why I bought a can of this Inca Gold myself! Most of the colors in this line of paints don't match the cap exactly from my experience........which has been both a pleasant surprise and a let down depending on what color your talking about. The two orange colors were a let down for me because they did not match the cap exactly.

Thanks for the input. Not sure if it is bleeding through or not. Perhaps the more coats the darker it gets. I know when I sprayed the first two coats it wasn't as dark. But after the third it really popped. Either way, I think it looks nice. The only other color that I have used in this line has been the Root Beer for a 68 Firebird.

As I mentioned before I think this a great color. I have used it on a couple of builds in the past and it has always turned out looking much like your finish. I don't doubt but what the Orange plastic has a curtain "bleed thru" since colors in this range tend to do that. But looking at the picture it very closely resembles the color on my two builds. As others have mentioned, the plastic spray can top is only close at best. In my case I used gray primer. If anything it looks like the Orange plastic may make the color a little richer and add some depth to the color. Your foil trim looks perfect.

Thanks. Yeah, I am starting to believe that this is more the natural color of the paint and that extra coats gives it a richer color. So far, all of the "Foil" work has been done with Molotow pens. I am planning to do a bit of actual foil work around the windshield and window frames after I finish the chassis work. Perhaps on Friday or Saturday night when it is quiet. Then I will hit it with another light coat of clear to seal it down. Got to spend some time looking for a nice Saddle Tan paint to start the interior.

Say.......... I do like that color. I enjoy playing with the different shades of the same color with different primers/ undercoat colors. Lookin' good Tom.

I  tried mixing some up,but it's hard to match the pictures I've seen,if you find something please share!

NO bleed through if you paint colored plastic with Tamiya Silver Leaf, then your primer, and then your color and clear coats. It has worked for me a number of times. Try it.

I've given up on trying to "match" most tan interiors. I've got a couple cans of Krylon or Rustoleum "satin" tans I use for interiors. They look okay to me and I can't recall anyone ever saying, "Hey, your tan interior color ain't right."
