Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 So... here's the idea. An abandoned old custom Merc project revived with a Cummins 4BT engine and 3/4 ton running gear. To that end, I cobbled up a 4BT by starting with the block from a Revell '41 Chevy pickup, and 8-bolt wheels from Scenes Unlimited fitted with SATCO Dunlop tires. The stock Mercury suspension is still there underneath but it's the look that matters this time. Other than some cutting and repositioning to house the engine and the fender-exit exhaust, the basic Revell kit was just built out of the box.
Jurva Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) Nice beater. I would like to know more about that engine. Edited January 25, 2018 by Jurva
Phildaupho Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 There is probably unchopped diesel powered '49 Mercury somewhere in Cuba.
misterNNL Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) Great concept that is very well done. Thanks for not turning into a monster four wheel thing. "Low-slow and rollin coal". Edited January 26, 2018 by misterNNL forgotten word
espo Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I'd like to see more of the engine you created since that is the big change on this. The body and finish look perfect for a car left in the elements to long.
Slotto Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Great build! Love the louvered hood. How does one do this? It's perfect
Chuck Most Posted January 28, 2018 Author Posted January 28, 2018 I'll get some pics of a 4BT when I get a decent looking one built. This one is essentially a Chevy Stovebolt with some stuff stuck to the top and sides to make it look like a 4BT. I more or less used another model as a pattern... http://www.modeltruckbuilder.com/index.php?/gallery/album/11-cummins-powered-50-chevy/ Mine's not quite as thorough a conversion as his.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Very cool project!!! I like the engine!!

People used to do this in 1:1 scale here. When Mercedes Benz introduced the six cylinder OM-321 engine on their 1111 series trucks here, someone found out one could actually bolt the head to a Chevrolet 261 six. Of course, the final product was not a long lasting engine, but the craze of the oil crisis make many Chevrolet pickup truck owners to do such a thing. It was called a "misto quente".
