The wife and I are celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary by spending the weekend in our usual haunt in Stillwater Minnesota.
And of course we had to have dinner in our favorite Stillwater restaurant, “Domacin Wine Bar”.

The wife had a green salad and a fig and prosciutto flatbread.

I had Shrimp and Grits with duck fat braised greens and a maple-bourbon gastrique.

Left over hamburger buns with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese baked in the oven and a nice lettuce & tomato salad with western dressing with peaches for dessert.

My family got together to memorialize my mom's passing to a much better place a year ago.  She loved the El Tovar, but we hardly ate there until recent years.  I had their road kill special, Elk spaghetti written in a way you thought it was all imported or something. ?

Playing in the kitchen, and it paid off!

Pan Roasted Tilapia with Moroccan Tomato Sauce and Crispy Fried Shallots, Golden Potato Gratin with Farmhouse Cheddar and Parmigiano Reggiano, Sautéed Green Beans with Sweet, Sticky Sesame Glaze, and Olive Fougasse Bread, washed down with a cold Miller Highlife. ?

Made a big pot of chili this morning, left it to simmer all day. By mid-afternoon the whole apartment smelled like heaven. Whipped up a double pan of cornbread at supper time. Topped the chili with chopped onions and shredded cheddar and chowed down...

Can hardly wait for the next day leftovers tomorrow.... Chili is always better the next day! ?

Pretty simple. Big ol' bowl of homemade cheese/chorizo/black bean dip, hot corn tortillas, salsa, guac, and a Yuengling. Fresh raspberries for dessert. Now for a cup of strong black coffee and an old film noir.  :)

I usually have a bunch of work colleagues over for a meal about once a year, but this year I decided to simplify things and forgo the usual "sit down" affair and do a wine and cheese thing.

About a dozen people showed up, and we offered them a fair spread.

I believe everyone had a good time.

Pretty miserable dinner tonight.

Not-so-great refried beans and chorizo smeared on a flour tortilla, with lotsa cheese melted under the broiler, and some kinda spendy salsa that I'll never buy again.

Oh well. Some meals are better than others, and it was still better and cheaper than most of what I can get out.  B)

EDIT: Nice couple handfuls of fresh raspberries for dessert, anyway.   :D

Had half a New York strip and a couple premade frozen stuffed potato skins......... I love beef, but I only eat steak about twice a month. The potatoes are from Farmrich, and have cheddar and bacon on 'em. Some Rocky Road icecream for afterwards..........

Publix had refrigerated Monsoon Kitchens Indian "butter chicken" prepared meals for buy-one-get-one-free, so I tried one. Pretty decent for $4.50.

I usually make my own Indian, but if they have any today, I'll be getting a few more.

I usually buy a bunch of Indian entrees from Trader Joe’s anytime I get a chance to get there.

They have probably a dozen different ones and they’re all very good!

Wife and I went to a local bar and gril with some friends to watch the Georgia game and one of the group , an avid hunter brought extra snacks . The owner of the bar knows everyone and we do this a lot . We had the usual bar jalapeno poppers , cheese sticks and loaded baked potato halves and mixed drinks , then they broth out the other snacks , bacon wrapped jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and ground deer , fried cubed deer tenders , ground deer sliders , grilled duck breast medallions marinated in soy sauce and honey and about 20 fried quail . To say the least , we were stuffed and it was fantastic .

Beef Bourgignon. It’s a Cook’s Country recipe that uses an Instant Pot. I served it over mashed potatoes.

Friday and Saturday nights: home made pork tenderloin tikka masala with seasoned whole-grain brown rice w/peas, lightly toasted flour tortillas standing in for naan, apricot preserves standing in for chutney, Sutter Home screw-top Merlot (cheap but pretty decent, especially with hot taste-bud-numbing dishes).

Fresh blackberries for dessert.  :D

Deer meat is good for you, as there's not any fat in it.......... When it's made into burger, the butchers usually add beef fat. Soaking it in vinegar water not only removes the gamey taste, it tenderizes it too!

Deer hash is really good, just browned in a skillet with some onion......
