montelsc Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Just picked this up on ebay ( promo car no engine) not sure of the year although in pretty good shape will be starting on it soon
Gramps46 Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 (edited) This should be a really good restoration. I will be watching. Edited September 17, 2018 by Gramps46
FredRPG Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Don't think it's a promo, looks like one of the Monogram 450SL. Just thought that might help if you need to hunt up any parts.
Russell C Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Aha, you are the one who ended up with this glue bomb I sold for cheap on ebay. Monogram stock version kit. Glad to know it went to an appreciative home. I originally got it for about equally cheap, and also got a Tamiya DTM "Tabac Original" Mercedes partial build for a smokin' low price around the same time, with evil intent on combining the two. Then I got a more evil idea to use a different body altogether, however, it'll be a project a lot further down the road.
montelsc Posted September 18, 2018 Author Posted September 18, 2018 If those kits are no engine it's the one!! Had this a while back a friend gave me a box of parts it was at the bottom in bad shape might still have something from it liked it this one's complete and yes was a great price couldn't pass it up
montelsc Posted September 18, 2018 Author Posted September 18, 2018 Bodys in prime nice & clean , new mirrors and a fresh set of Borrani wheels & michelins
Bob Ellis Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 About 1975. I bought one kit new than because I loved those cars. $14000 back then. This is a great kit even if no engine.

The lights this kit represents, as well as the smaller bumpers, are the European version. Very nice save, by the way. Edited September 20, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
montelsc Posted September 20, 2018 Author Posted September 20, 2018 Guess it's a 75 then Thanks for the info

YOURS can be any EUROPEAN spec car from 1971-1989. Round headlights and heavy crash bumpers were on the USA spec cars. Edited September 20, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy

peteski Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 (edited) Before I peeked into this thread I didn't even know this model existed. But now I wanted one! So I ended up getting an unbuilt kit on eBay, and looking on Google for reference photos I found an older thread here showing another built of this kit: Atmobil made some interesting modifications to his kit. Between yours and his writeup, I'm learning many useful building hints and modifications. One think that bugs me about yours is the size of the door mirrors. But I suspect that when the model is seen in-person, it looks ok. My plan is to scratchbuild the mirrors from some styrene and putty, make master pattern out of those, and then cast them in resin. I also have couple of ESCI Mercedes 500SLC kits which also have no door mirrors. Edited September 25, 2018 by peteski
montelsc Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 Had those door mirrors from a trans am GTA still have to foil em thanks for those pics & thanks for looking
