I'm talking about just the art, the kits issued with just a picture on the box top, no writing no company logo.

Some of these have a simple vignette, others a full scene.

Here's a link to a puzzle page I've put together with as many of these wonderful works of art as I could find over the years.

There's something about the old marker art that's so much more pleasing than photos or airbrush. Not that those are bad, just that the hand drawn marker art is so marvelous.

I like that AMT have been reissuing some of these kits with a full colour print included in the box.

Would be great if they offered up some actual poster sized prints, suitable for framing.

Don Greer, whom I think did most if not all of the box art above, passed yesterday (or very recently). I posted about it but the thread got merged with the In Memorium thread down in the Off-Topic Lounge section. I just posted some more images of his amazing work down in that thread. RIP, Don, you did great work and made MANY people happy. B)

I have always enjoyed the model box top drawn/painted artwork rather than photo art presentation.  Seems to excite my enthusiasm for the model subject much faster.  More than a few kits have followed me home because of the box art presentation by folks like Greer, Steel, Leynnwood, Kishady and many other artists.
