ismaelg Posted January 31, 2019 Author Posted January 31, 2019 Hello, I am out on business travel to Houston. This was the last update I posted last weekend in the race car modeling forum before leaving.Upper and lower A arms and carbon brakes done on the driver's side. Instructions are not clear nor accurate on the brakes. The roll cage part on top of the engine is loose. It will be fixed in place after the air intake is installed. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 Hello, Exhaust: No need to explain where this is going... Thanks,
ismaelg Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Hello, Because of the subject I have an active detailed thread on this project on the race cars model forum. I see I haven't updated here in a long time. I'm out of town on business travel so no bench time. Here are some updates: Feb. 3 Wheels and tires are done. Added valve stems (wire). They don't write tire location (FL,FR,RL,RR) in the tire. They use a small sticker in the wheels in the valve stem area. Feb 5 Rolling chassis! Almost a shame to cover with a body. Love how the exhaust turned out. Noticed the tires need to be properly seated in the wheels. No big deal. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted February 21, 2019 Author Posted February 21, 2019 Hello, Rescribed panel lines, removed mold lines. First coat of primer revealed still many issues. The body has plenty of stubborn mold lines and the surface is quite wavy, especially on the nose. I have spent quite some time addressing these. Far more work than what the pictures suggest. By the way, for this particular race (2016 Le Mans), the port in the left front fender was covered. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 Thanks Jason! That is probably my favorite part of this build so far. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 Hello, I've been very busy so very slow progress and even slower updates recently. Just as I suspected (and not surprisingly with multi-piece bodies) test fitting showed some unacceptable gaps. So I started adding some material (styrene strips) to tighten the gaps. ...and finally ready for color. First burst of color! Close inspection revealed some minor issues that were addressed. Performance Red was re-applied to the back body and the rear of the main body. After a few days to dry, it was masked and the Frozen White was airbrushed. After the white had a few days to dry, I had a lot of fun (not!) masking for the blue. Funny how the masking is the inverse of the scheme (blue over white) And that's where we are now. I hope to be able to airbrush the blue this week. Thanks,
Twokidsnosleep Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Pretty darn awesome Rolling chassis looks menacingly mean and I am sure the body panels will follow suit Great project
ismaelg Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 Hello, WOOHOO!!!! I'm happy! Well, to say I'm happy is an understatement! Thanks,
martin9428 Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I love this kit. I may have to pick one up. Do you know whether they have PE parts or aftermarket parts for this kit?
martin9428 Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 The Tamiya kit seems nice as well and in watching some videos, there doesn't seem to be the fit issues you had with this kit.

Do you know whether they have PE parts or aftermarket parts for this kit? No PE set at this time for this kit yet. Decalcas is doing a resin parts set, rear diff /wheels & tires/ brakes/ fuel filler/steering wheel and some other bids due very soon (mid March). Racing 43 is doing a CF decals set along with the Daytona liveries due soon as well. Studio 27 has the Castrol livery coming soon and Indycals has both from Daytona already. Looking good Ismael, nice masking job, not easy, I know. Nice to see you got the rear inner wheel pods masked and painted correctly, I've seen a number built now and the builders got that wrong. Looking forward to more updates. Edited March 2, 2019 by Jhedir6
Gramps46 Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Great masking job Ismael. Wish they would all turn out that well.
ismaelg Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 Hello, They say you need to face your fears head on. Well, I've always feared decals. I used to HATE decals. I consider decals to be my weakest point in this hobby. but since I like race cars I have to suck it up and face it. This will take forever. This is over an hour of work. There are 3 decals here, but not what you think. This was all one decal. But the "Powered by" script was touching the black letters. So I had to surgically separate them. Then the tiny little Registered logo (R) was missing and it was taken from the kit's decal set. These decals are from the aftermarket set. Very thin and fragile. Taking my time with these. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted March 4, 2019 Author Posted March 4, 2019 Thanks guys! Slowly but surely progressing. Taking extra care and time with the decals as I only have one shot at this. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 Hello, Body decals pretty much done. Mix and match kit's decals with aftermarket set but still not 100% accurate (mostly in size). Thanks,IsmaelRead more: http://race-car-models.proboards.com/thread/1309/2016-lemans-class-winning-ford?page=5#ixzz5hdh9bRiW
Jhedir6 Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Looking good Ismael. Yeah, that after market set is a bit off on size, but tbh, most wouldnt notice unless it's pointed out. Waiting for more.
ismaelg Posted March 10, 2019 Author Posted March 10, 2019 Thanks David! I keep going back to yours as a reference
Sledsel Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 (edited) Looking really nice. Obviously those "thingy's" are a poor attempt at throttle bodies. I think the lack of Turbos is the result of you cannot see them when it is built. Therefore, why tool them. Just my thought. Now, tear it apart and add some turbo's...... LOL! Edited March 10, 2019 by Sledsel
ismaelg Posted March 10, 2019 Author Posted March 10, 2019 (edited) Thanks! Those "thingy's" are not in the kit. I added them to have something there but they are under a brace. The kit's engine looks like a NA setup. I thought about going wild and do the turbos but: -I would have to plumb everything -It won't be seen -Most likely nothing will fit afterwards -It's just a Ford Now if it were an LS then.... ismaelg Posted March 14, 2019 Author Posted March 14, 2019 Hello, No pictures today but I clearcoated both body "halves". Looking good so far with no drama. Will let it sit before checking if more is needed or if I can continue moving forward. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted March 21, 2019 Author Posted March 21, 2019 Hello, Can I stop polishing? My elbow hurts... Thanks,
ismaelg Posted March 21, 2019 Author Posted March 21, 2019 First mockup since primer: Still a long way to go... Thanks,
