carsntrucks4you Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 (edited) First of all I have to said that my hint wasn't that precise that I thought. I said a re engined car from the biggest car manufacturer. the Biggest car manufacturer is Volkswagen, but thats not 100% correct I meant not Volkswagen I mean Volkswagen group. I'm sorry for this. Part of the Volkswagen group is Audi and Audi has bought NSU in 1968. And car is a Thurner RS (German side) is based on a shortened NSU 1200 C platform. It was build from 1968 - 1974. Now the hint is complete. Edited February 9, 2019 by carsntrucks4you
ChrisR Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I have absolutely no clue....once again my internet searching capabilities has failed me.
Pete J. Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) Boy this is a toughy! In this era there were hundreds of similar designs that all followed this pattern. I've exhausted all of my best guesses! I know what it isn't. Just don't know what it is! Edited February 6, 2019 by Pete J.
dodgefever Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I thought the gullwing doors would simplify searching, but I've got nowhere with this one.
carsntrucks4you Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) Here is a hint: It is based on a rear engined car from a defunct company that is now part of the biggest car manufacturer of the world Edited February 7, 2019 by carsntrucks4you
matthijsgrit Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 This was a tough one, even after your hint, but I think I got it!!
dodgefever Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Got there in the end, thanks to the hints.

ChrisR Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Even with the hint I am still clueless...................
carsntrucks4you Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 Although my hint wasn't 100% correct a few of you found the solution. TomZ Matt Bacon GeeBee dodgefever matthijsgrit dw1603 Congratulation!
Matt Bacon Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 It was the gullwings that opened the door for me... I found a list on Wikipedia, thinking it was the East German gullwing sports coupe, found it wasn’t, and then looked at the other German cars on the list I didn’t know, and there it was... best, M.

I think I must have searched every variation of gullwing without success, I was totally sick of the sight of the 300SL and the East German Melkus. Finally found it after Michael’s clue pointed me at NSU, seems so obvious now, why didn’t I think of that sooner?

dodgefever Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I don't think we'll be seeing a Melkus as a possible entry for a while. I thought I'd exhausted the gullwing cars, but TomZ kindly gave me a nudge to retrace my steps. I'd missed the Thurner because the Wikipedia page didn't link to another page or image.
Matt Bacon Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Those pages that don’t link are always the most interesting ones! best, M.
ChrisR Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 (edited) NSU never crossed my mind, even though I searched VW. Edited February 10, 2019 by ChrisR wording
landman Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 And I thought it might be a variation of Marcos. Go figure.
Foxer Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I should have known this one since I was stationed in Neckarsulm Germany where NSU was for all of 1968.
