aurfalien Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) I'm curious if any one would happen to have ideas on what to scavenge from in order to get a top mounted cooling fan in 1/24 or 1/25 scale? Something like what's pictured. Edited March 6, 2019 by aurfalien
Pete J. Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Perhaps the Tamiya Porsche 935 1:24 scale? I don't have one to check but a brief check of the internet seemed to indicate that it it not a curbside kit. Others may know.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 The Fujimi 917 kits have a similar Porsche-signature design fan molded as a separate part...but it has fewer blades. Put the fan in a housing made from tube stock, and only the most knowledgeable Porschephiles would question its authenticity. You could also scratch one fairly easily using 1/2 round stock as the blades. The flat bottom of the stock shouldn't be visible, so a good illusion of curved blades would be entirely possible. The AMT 907 fan is poorly rendered, just FYI.
afx Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 The AMT 935 kit includes a horizontal cooling fan (its on the black tree in the lower left) Don't recall the number of blades it has.
Gramps46 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 I have a fan from a junkyard 935-78 but it only has 9 blades. If that is good enough I can send it to you. I know where to find you.

Glad I could help and thanks to JC for showing the 935 kit which triggered me to look for it. Gary Edited March 6, 2019 by Gramps46
Force Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) The thing I find most difficult do replicate is the semi-translucent beigeish color of the plastic Porsche used on the fans, fan shroud and many other things on the racing cars. Edited March 6, 2019 by Force

The 1:1 parts are made in raw, unpainted fiberglass. I wonder if moulds could be made of kit parts, then copies cast in fiberglass (polyester?) resin.
afx Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 (edited) Don't know what MFH mold their raw fiberglass Porsche parts with but it's pretty convincing. The real deal: Edited March 7, 2019 by afx
Force Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 (edited) Yes that looks pretty good. Edited March 8, 2019 by Force

Gary Hi Gary, It hasn't showed up yet but I'm in no rush on this and am simply grateful you sent it to me.
aurfalien Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 Hi Gary, I just got it today and it looks marvelous! Thank you very much!
