I'll have to agreed. I have one molded in red and one molded in orange. Even MPC couldn't decide.

I think the Duster looks more orange (compared to Sox & martin's red/white & blue car in the background). the Plymouth looks more red to me, just my 2 cents. The orange is similiar to the GM Hugger Orange. My Dad used to have a 71 Chevy Blazer that was Hugger Orange that looked real close to this.

I agree Zack the top photo shows the S&M Cuda is more red  ........... And I just like Orange much better !

I have a Cady sheet for that car. It just says "red" for the car color. The red lettering on the sheet is very close to Testor's 1203. I agree with folks who said it looks orange, in some photos. I think that may be a white balance issue. Of course, I have no scientific evidence of that! :D I love the early pro stocks. This makes me want to use the AMT Duster I have and do one to go with my 'Cuda!

IIRC, I think the Leal cars were Ford Poppy Red, so you could try Testor's Chevrolet Engine Red, or even Hugger Orange, and adjust to taste.

Yes, 65 Ford Poppy Red is the color we came up with as correct for the Moebius California Flash Plymouth.  I believe he used that same color for years.

The graphic on his web page is orange. Not red. Not even Ford Poppy Red. Orange.

Just sayin'.

What Ford calls Poppy Red in 65, Mercury calls Competition Orange AKA Ford Calypso Coral.  Regardless of the name, they are all the same Reddish Orange color.

Yeah, I know the color and I agree that that's what's on the '65 Plymouth above. But the later Duster looks much more like a pure orange to me.

I agree with Snake. It's orange. I have  always thought it to be orange.  Every photo of that particular Duster shows the  "California" text to be red. It is obviously darker in color than the rest of the car. Also, compared to the Sox and Martin car, in the opposite lane, which we know is red, Leal's car looks orange. Here's another photo from the Petersen archives in which the car appears to be  orange. The later Duster also appears to be more red, than this car. Them's my thoughts! Dammit, I have been wanting to build this car, forever, and, this has my interest piqued!

It's red, just looks orange depending on lighting. If you look at enough photos on line you'll see.  Tamiya Bright Red wouldn't be a bad choice.

Ive seen the Butch Leal 1965 Belv in person. And it is  most definitely orange.

BUT, its a restored car so I cant say with 100% certainty if its dead nuts accurate or not
