Madhatter Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Hey guys I've decided to do a small WIP on this one as I am not a car modeller so am hoping to pick up tips as I go along from the vast experience here This is my start to the Revell BMW Bruno Spengler machine that I have decided to do as a street car. This kit is hard to come by now and I know some of you may be cringing at the thought of doing what I intend to do to it but I'm OK with it I've only just started and I am not a fast builder, but if you do see something that is clearly wrong or could be better, please tell me - I am all ears This is the colour I'm going to go with: I have a set of CF decals to use with it, so it should break up the red nicely. The paint is Tamiya Clear Red over Alclad Stainless Steel if you want to know See you all again soon Thanks and regards Si
stitchdup Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Cool, love the plan and that colour is awesome on it

espo Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Beautiful paint work. I like your idea of making it a road car. One thing I noticed is the Hood opening lines. In the area of the front wheel arches the line disappears. I don't know enough about this body to know how the Hood lines would run, but this stood out as soon as I looked at it.
gijoe Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Lookin' good, that color is great!! I have the same kit, and I was planning to build it without the official livery as well, . I was thinking of a similar paint technique, but with a yellow over alclad chrome. It's an experiment that could end poorly.

You know - I had never noticed that until you pointed it out. I'm thinking its just there for show and the entire lot comes off as one piece on the real car. I'll do some Google image searching later to confirm that 9 hours ago, gijoe said: Lookin' good, that color is great!! It's an experiment that could end poorly. I had similar concerns as well but I found by thinning the red out a lot, it sprays very smoothly. You just can't do it in one sitting otherwise you get pooling and it'll ruin the effect. I might do a test spray of some yellow over the red to see what effect that has. It may well enhance it even more. Thanks for the idea!
espo Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 It would make sense that as a true race car the whole front end would lift off. As a road car would you want to change that? With the paint job you have on this, it looks amazing, I'd just let it go and remember you have to lift off the entire front body work to check the oil and water.
Madhatter Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 thanks gusy I have done some work on this and have put on the CF decals into the cockpit. It's my first time ever using this kind of decal and I have learnt a fair bit I'm waiting on the black to dry on the main body before I start spraying the Alclad etc and I'll start painting the rest of the interior this weekend hopefully I'm surprised at how many parts there are too The engine is coming along nicely: The cockpit so far: And a test fit of the lower side panels. I have no idea what that odd mark is above the fins but you can't see it in the flesh Excuse the average photos but it's dark outside and I won't get another chance to take any pics for a few days in the daylight Thanks for looking Si
Codi Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Nice build and love your color choice. That's unique in the very best way. cheers
Dann Tier Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 You are doing an amazing job with it!!!! i'm not really into building race cars -I prefer road cars with less visual stimulation -sometimes even Shelby stripes are too much for me, lol The fact that I still like the looks of certain race cars, causes me to build them as road cars too, whether it was actual, or not....my artistic brain takes over, lol I'm with you in making people cringe, I have a Porsche 917, Lancia 037, and an FXXK that will all be road cars when i'm done!....keep up the great work!!

I'd love to do an FXX-K as a street car. I've seen your work so your post inspires me. Thanks Dan - I'm stoked to know that I'm not the only one who's stripe and sponsor averse. Mind you, I won't deny I almost went with matte black with a same coloured red as what's on there now stripe running along the bonnet and roof line scheme here, but I am going to stick to my plan here. Actually, on that subject, what in your (or anyone else's )opinion would be the best paint to replicate gloss CF for the roof? I'm just thinking I might go a gloss black with a touch of grey? I found some time this afternoon to take a few photos outside before it began to rain There's still a few touch ups to do and I haven't sprayed on the semi gloss clear over the cockpit, so it looks a little to shiny at this point Chassis is starting to come together. I have fixed up the exhaust pipes so they meet the other bit and will weather them all shortly Well, that's all I have for now, but feel free to post any view points you may have - they don't have to be 'atta boy' words. Thanks for looking Si
Dann Tier Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Well, bud, first off, i'm loving how this is progressing, and secondly, there are at least 15 different kinds of Carbon Fiber, with different kolors, and looks. For my Pagani Huayra build, I used a metallic black that had a bit of gold flake in it (Duplicolor Universal Metallic Black), but I have seen others do mixes of metallic grays too. Ich Will is someone who has a really nice CF kolor to ask about as well. Also, thanks for following my stuff, and i'm glad I can help!!
Dragonhawk1066 Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 This project is looking awesome so far. The paint is very nice and very smooth, I love it. This is going to look phenomenal when done and I can't wait to see it finished. You are inspiring me to try something similar!
Madhatter Posted April 10, 2019 Author Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) thanks guys! Dan, I might have a look for a CF Decal sheet instead. If you have any recommendations, I'll be happy to hear them I had a couple of hours to myself this afternoon, so I took a few pictures of how it's looking now. Well, that's it now until the weekend when I next get a chance to sit down and build. Still lots of things to do yet and lots of little touch ups. As we all know, the list is never ending Thanks for looking Si Edited April 10, 2019 by Madhatter
ismaelg Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 Beautiful work. It is coming along very nice. The color really pops nicely with the CF. Looking forward to see it finished!
Madhatter Posted April 22, 2019 Author Posted April 22, 2019 Thanks very much guys. Sorry for the late response - just got back from holidays and I haven't been able to access the forums I'm hoping to have this finished in the next couple of days, so here are the last WIP pics I have for this build. I've added some wires into the cabin for interest. I doubt very much that it is in any way accurate but you won't see much inside once it's done I bought a CB decal sheet from BNA which will suit my purpose just fine. That's it but thanks for looking in Si
Madhatter Posted April 23, 2019 Author Posted April 23, 2019 Thanks Dann I took a couple of moody shots before the Display Case entry which I'll hopefully do later this weekend
