Well, I had a nice little stint at the bench for the last few months, but the wife cracked the whip and it's time for me to get back into some home remodeling projects.

Hopefully, I'll get a little time in the shop occasionally, but for now, it's a new bathroom project.

Started this morning at around 10:00 Am and got the bathroom pretty much gutted out by around noon.

Let the fun begin!!

Exactly so. The Lovely Mrs. Snake learned years ago that if she dreamed up some "project" for me to do, she'd be invited to help, or it wouldn't get done. The list has been mercifully short since then.

Ya, the last time that happened around here I was supervising and someone who knew what they were doing was doing the work. A suggestion before you go much further. Put a cap on the sewer drain. There is a reason for the water trap in a toilet, it's to stop the sewer gasses from coming up into the room. What all do you have planed for the new bathroom ?

Hand her some tools and tell her to get started. Nothing worse than too many chiefs and not enough Indians. :D

Unfortunately, there is only one chief, and one Indian.........I'm the Indian! <_<

What was wrong with it ? Looked good to me.

Just dated.

Really needed to enter this century.

Just the bright orange paint alone was enough to make me nauseous every time that I went in there.

I think it will actually be kind of fun!

We'll be toning down the paint color, and adding all new antique bronze fixtures, faucets, etc.

The wife really wants a vessel sink, so we are doing a white vanity, doors and trim with a copper vessel sink.

Floors will match the living area, (vinyl plank flooring).

The tile will be interesting if we decide that we can afford it.

Mother of pearl mosaic tile with a hammered copper accent edge.

Non of these items are set in stone yet, except probably the sink.

Still throwing around ideas.

I like that mosaic tile... I'm holding off on bathroom remodeling for now...the 3 in my house (been here 2 years now) look like they were remodeled maybe 20 years ago and are in good shape. I am replacing various light fixtures throughout the house, and eventually want to remodel the finished basement.  The rec room down the (which I'm using for storage currently) is very 1970s style w/ faux wood paneling.  No shag carpeting, though.  I'm thinking of eventually reworking it into a home theatre room or a hobby room (I currently have my models in a spare bedroom).   Fun stuff to think about...

Umm, that stuff you posted looks like late 19th century. :P :D

As far as the walls and floors, might I suggest tiling with Italian Peach marble?

Sure, $28/sq. ft. seems like a lot; but, think of the look on the Chief's face when she sees the end result. Why, Tom Monaghan, founder of Domino's Pizza, had his duplex (all 4,175 sq. ft.) at Trump Tower completely tiled with it because it was his wife's favorite color marble. After she saw it, she decided she wanted a different color. :D

Speaking of tile, I love this ceramic tile I put in my living room a couple years ago...replaced carpeting and the original 1967 tile.   Looks like worn barn wood.

I did something similar except with Vinyl plank flooring.

I just love this stuff!

It's easy to install, not terribly expensive, quiet, waterproof, and it looks great!

And with a lifetime warranty, you really can't go wrong.

I replaced worn out, noisy laminate and carpet with it.

I never looked back!

All of the floors in my house may eventually be replaced with this stuff.

Uh, yeah......even though I only have about 25 square feet to cover, that would be about $750.00!!

That's over half of what I figure the entire cost of the renovation will be!

Not in the budget! ;)

I like your material selections. I'm not into the vessel sinks so much for myself but I think they look neat. I especially like the faucet style. I wanted to get those a few years ago when we had the master bath redone but got out voted on that. I think the wooden plank style floor tiles are a great idea and what we would do in the future. They also look good in kitchens and are very practical and easy to keep clean. You might share some of your pictures later.

I'll add a few pictures when it gets interesting.

I'll be starting out with a little electrical work, drywall repair, and paint, so it will be boring for a while.

The vessel sink isn't very practical, but it looks cool and this will be in our main bathroom.

When there's no company in the house, (which is 95% of the time) it gets no use whatsoever, so we thought that it would make a nice show piece rather than a really practical, functional bath room.

I think I've finally finished this project!

Only took me 6 months! :D

But you know how it goes.

Not a lot of extra time for projects such as this in the summer when there is yard work and other stuff that needs to be done.

Still need to put up a shower rod and curtain, and will replace the shower hardware at some point, but at least the major stuff is done.

Everything has been replaced except the tub.

Nice work. I think most would agree that modelers have just that attention to detail and vision lacking in some folks.

Oh, I also see that you have loaded the T.P. in the correct way ( over the top ).

Cant tell you how many times this controversy has been discussed with the women in my life.?

So long as there's T.P. when I need it, I really don't care how or if it's hung up;)

I try and keep at least 1/2 dozen rolls under the sink in each bathroom at all times..

Funny thing is one of the bathrooms in my house looks a lot like your before photos, but a light green.  I don't know when it was last remodeled.  (1967 suburban tract split level).   Pretty dated but in good condition.

That's part of the reason why it needed to be remodeled.

Our house was built in 2003!!!
