Ace-Garageguy Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Hmmmmm...again, I don't know, but I have an idea what it might be based on.
MrObsessive Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I've seen this one before here in the States, but I'll have to do some digging as I can't remember what that's based on either.
Bucky Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Just when I think I'm getting close, I find out...no, I'm not! LOL
matthijsgrit Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Got it, And I believe I have found the exact year... Looking forward to Michael’s reply!
carsntrucks4you Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 Some of you don't have a clue about the car. Let me give you a hint. The manfacture of this car start its business with sewing machine and bicycles. Followed by cars, trucks and motorcycle.

Matt Bacon Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Sewing machines to bicycles to cars isn't such an unusual progression in the history of car makers. Interestingly, Otley, just down the road from us, could have been become a new Coventry -- centre of the British Motor Industry. The first license holder for building Daimler cars in the UK was a printing press manufacturer (another type of company that knew about large, complex mechanical things with reciprocating parts and chain drives, high precision mechanisms, forging and casting) in Otley. Sadly, the German immigrant who put the deal together fell out with Daimler after a handful of cars were built, otherwise the Mercedes might have been first created in West Yorkshire... best, M.

On another forum, the trivia contest had a running gag that the first clue was almost always a bicycle manufacturer, because that described half the carmakers that ever were. And remembering how the British Daimler company evolved, now you have me pondering XK powered Gullwings built with other components from the Jaguar parts bin, or E types built with Mercedes quality.
carsntrucks4you Posted July 7, 2019 Author Posted July 7, 2019 (edited) The answer on this weeks quiz is 1976 - 78 Opel Kadett C Aero This car was a rival to the Beetle convertible, but it wasn‘t successful. The body was build by Baur who also opened the BMW 3 series (E21). A Gullwing with an XKE rear end would be a great car. As for engines - we never liked racing after the Jags had been on the track because they dropped oil everywhere...
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 I was so sure this thing was based on a Ford Escort Mk II, I didn't look at any other makes. Duh.
Richard Bartrop Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 An Escort was my first thought too. The grille matched, but the rest didn't. The wheel arches looked like some sort of GM product, but I got fixated on Vauxhall.
