High guys.

Just today I had a work colleague inquire as to if I would be interested in secretly building a Corvair model for her husband.

It appears that he wasn't certain as to whether it was a '65 or '66 that he had owned.

After perusing ebay and doing a quick Google photo search it appears that there was very little difference between the '66-'69 Corvairs.

It looks as if the '65 had a little bit different front end badging.

At the moment there are no '65 or '66 Corvairs available on ebay that I could find, and I could either spend $125.00 on a '67, or $25.00 on a '69.

My question is, is there enough difference between say the 1966 and the 1969 Corvairs to justify a $100.00 price difference?

Take into consideration that the customer is an automotive layman who is not even sure if the car he owned was a '65 or '66.

Any info would be appreciated.

In all honesty I don't believe there were any big differences, probably just mild trim differences. Maybe some engine tuning things. I'd go with the 69 unless you're really anal about it. Most likely the kit makers didn't change much if anything anyway.

Thanks Lee.

In my quick search I wasn't even seeing any really noticeable trim differences.

I was thinking that there very well could have been some significant interior differences, but I don't know.

I thought that I would leave that to the experts. ^_^

Just trim, scripts, wheel covers, and upholstery patterns.  If you pound the ground, early annuals do turn up at reasonable prices; earlier this year at NNL East, I found a mostly unassembled '67 for $20.  I put it back on the table, next guy grabbed it, I thought he'd buy it.  Walking around later in the day, I saw it still on the table, this time I bought it.

Only '68 and '69 had the side markers.  The AMT '68 annual kit was marked "for '68" and was actually a '67 minus stock wheel covers, even the interior was '67.

Agree completely. Buy any common reissued '69 and build on with confidence. If you get the colors close, he'll wet his pants with joy. B)

It's easy to get white "close". :D

Too bad it wasn't a Yenko Stinger...those were the first COPO cars, Don Yenko had them built minus all exterior trim moldings and scripts...

So stand back when you hand it to him. tango_face_grin.png.92a7ea31829703c924a1c79e47c4d13b.png

I'm assuming the guy's wife will be handing it to him. And dealing with whatever aftermath. B)

The old AMT Corvair kit has been reissued many times over. The basic kit is very good and it has been offered with several different equipment levels. The point is one of these kits should be fairly easy to obtain at a reasonable price. Maybe even post your needs on this forum in that section. Someone will be willing to work a trade or something for you.

I owned a '66. The front bucket seats are different from the '69. The '66 used the older style used on earlier models and they changed in '67 to the style used in all the other Chevy models.
