I have a Windows 10 / Google Chrome desktop that has been relatively trouble free unless I do something stupid, which I apparently did when I fell asleep at the keyboard last night.  Now only the upper half of the screen is visible/usable.  I can get a full screen by hitting F11, but then the tool bar goes away.  I went into Tools and hit Reset, but all I did was lose my AdBlock.

Suggestions?

Have you tried shutting down and restarting?

Yep, did that.  What's frustrating is I couldn't have done anything terribly complex, yet I can't seem to come up with any way to undo whatever I did.

Seems like you had your mouse drag the taskbar up and take up half the screen. Using your mouse hover (slowly) at the top edge of the taskbar and when you see the "doube arrows", hold the left button on the mouse and drag it back towards the bottom of the screen.

I'm not sure why Windows has this feature...........who wants to just see only half the screen with the bottom half filled with icons??

Hope this helps and without seeing it firsthand, this is what it sounds like to me.

A while back, I inadvertently did something similar. The Chrome screen positioned itself so far to the right that I lost the scroll bar and the capability to X anything to stop it. I tried everything one normally does to no avail.

The only solution was to completely uninstall Chrome and then do a clean reinstall, including adding all the extensions like AdBlock one at a time. It's a PITA, and has to be thorough.

Good luck.

Thanks for the referral.  The people on there tried to be very helpful, but I don't think they were ready to deal with such a high-level computer idiot.  Everything got resolved eventually, thanks to a family friend.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is apparently what happened.  After all the time and effort I put into researching ways to fix this myself, a friend of the family resolved it in a matter of seconds by doing what you suggested.

I haven't done badly in most other areas of life, but virtually anything computer-related might as well be written backwards in Sanskrit as far as making sense goes.  I named my computer Hal, as in the computer from 2001 A Space Odyssey.  I can almost hear it snickering as it says "I'm afraid I can't do that, Monty."

OTOH, it helped me find the perfect picture to use as my avatar:

Thanks for all the helpful replies!

LOL! :D

Ain't 2019 technology grand?? I have to deal with a couple computers at work because of what I do, and I gotta tell ya.........overnight when IT is not here, I just get disgusted and fix it myself! Recently the company switched ALL the PC's to Windows 10 which is another story as to how I had to reconfigure everything that was on the old Win 7.

Being a 43 year veteran of the pipefitting industry, I freely admit that I am NOT a computer GURU! I can jam one up with the best of 'em! I currently have a Windows7 that will need to be upgraded to Windows10 before January 1. I dread it!

Who is forcing you to update?  Pssst! Don't tell anybody, but I'm still running Windows 98SE on one of my computers. Yes, over 20-year-old Operating System.  I use that PC for my Alps printer (which is about the same vintage). It is also running Corel Draw 10 as my graphic program for designing decals and other stuff.  Then I have another laptop running Win XP.  Those 2 are on my home network, but I don't venture out to the Internet with them. My newest OS is Win 7 on another laptop, and I'm not updating that one anytime soon.  At work we have been using Win 10 for some time, but I'm not a fan (but I have no say in the matter).
