After finishing up my '67 Mustang, I was coming up with blanks in figuring out what to build next.  So, this had caught my eye while rummaging through the stash and thought it might make for a good quick, painless build while continuing to figure out what the next project would be.  The body is pre-painted in what is very close (in my eyes) to Calypso Coral, one of my favorite FoMoCo colors.  The mirrors and rear valance were unpainted and molded in black, so I paint matched them the best I could with Model Master Hugger Orange over a white basecoat.  Under the hood the kit does not supply a radiator hose or a power steering pump, so I plucked those from my spare parts box.  The exhaust tips I drilled out too for a much better appearance.  It was a fun and simple kit to throw together, now on to an Olds.......

Thanks for looking and any comments or questions.

Very cool, thanks for posting it! I've never seen this model but I'll keep my eyes open for one. This isn't my favorite car and not one I'd spend any effort modeling but this would be an easy way to fill that slot on my shelf. Also good to know that Hugger Orange is a good match for Calypso Coral, as I was planning to use it on a '69 Cougar Eliminatior. Well done and model on! B)

Like Snake I had not seen this model built up and I am impressed.  Nicely done indeed.

And a big thank you for awakening my interest in Testors 1/24 diecasts.  I did a quick search on the Bay and was really surprised by what is available and how cheap they are going for.

It is hit or miss with Testors depending on what model was used as the base kit.  The Torino looks nice and at first glance the MPC based 71-73 Mustangs from Testors look okay but there are numerous flaws carried over from the plastic kit.   My biggest complaints with them are they are supposed to represent a 71 or 72 but they have the 73 front bumper and the hood has vents and the engine is a Boss 429 which is incorrect.  They are also usually not cheap but I have to admit the paint on them is pretty nice.

Yep.  I would not want to disappoint anyone.  The good thing about the Torino is that it has the correct 429 engine that came in the real 71 Mustangs and it should fit easily.  You can get both models and drop a 351 into the Torino and still have a legit GT.

I concur! I have the yellow version somewhere in a box. Here's a mine after some of my own paint additions with a white interior. Sorry, these are the only decent pictures I have.

Thanks guys!  I had bought this kit probably around 15 years ago at Walmart.  The price tag was still on the box....$16.97.

Thanks Snake.  In a coincidence, I too have a Cougar Eliminator in "Calypso Coral" that I built a number of years ago.  For this one I sprayed it with plain old Testors Bright Red.  I think it too is a fairly close match.

I totally agree with you Rex.  I have the yellow version of that Mach 1.

Looks good, Tim!  Like it with the white interior.

I have an orange Torino built up in Todd's stuff if anyone needs it.   Shoot me a PM and we'll see if we can work it out.  I haven't looked at it much - I'm sure it's the pre-built edition, since I didn't build it for him.  I don't think it has a box or anything.   Just needs a new home.
