Hello from England

Hi everybody, I'm Pete. I used to mess around with Tamiya RC cars in the late 80s & then returned to it a few years ago. After doing a couple of kits, I found 1:10 scale was taking up too much space, yet I also found I was enjoying the building element more than ever - the solution was obvious! Currently finishing my third small scale build (1:24 & 1:20 is my thing) and about to start another, with a couple more lined up after that. I plan to post some of my work and to enjoy browsing everyone else's whilst picking up some useful tips/info. Cheers.

Welcome aboard Peter, where abouts in England are you?? Like you, I got into the 1/10th R.C stuff in the early 1980's, even became a member of the Beatties Racing team, but other things and time restraints got in the way, then got back into plastic modelling. (1/24 &1/25th scale).

Welcome Pete and I on an opposite spectrum built many 1:43 kits and bought often from Grand Prix Models in the UK.   Now at 62 those kits with my eye sight are not so easy to build.   Lol!  Anyhow thanks for joining.

Hi Geoff. Beatties was like nirvana - didn't know they had a team! I'm near Bristol.

Welcome to Model Cars Magazine Forum, Peter...... I am also from England, here in Derbyshire..... used to build Airfix kits between the ages of 8 years and 13 years, then stopped for 50 years, and started again at 63 years of age.... crazy, isn't it?

Look forward to seeing your builds posted on here, and you will find many friendly and experienced guys as members who will offer all sorts of useful advice and help. Recently, I have received small parts in the post from Australia, United States and Canada, always from MCM members sending hard to find pieces.

I have built a 1:24 scale diorama, also two 1:43 scale dioramas and currently building my third 1:43 scale diorama. I collect both kit built model cars and also diecast model cars. My collection includes 1:24 scale and 1:43 scale models, with a 1:25 resin kit Pontiac on the workbench as we speak. I do tend to specialise in Rolls-Royce model motor cars, but all manner of different vehicles have been added to the growing collection. Biggest was the 1:24 Revell London Bus at 400 pieces, and the smallest was a 1:24 Tamiya Vespa motor scooter at 8 pieces.

Welcome Peter!

I quoted the above because I grew up as a US Army dependent and lived in Germany.  Most of the available kits back then (1969-1972) were Airfix 1/32 scale cars so I built a mess of them!  And as an adult I have collected a bunch of them. So I can identify with you Brits!

Nice to hear from you David. I suspect there are a rather large number of us revisiting childhood passions! I'll certainly be taking a look at your collection & it's great to hear how helpful the MCM community is.

Hi Tom. Yeah, I've never actually built a kit but Airfix is a byword for modelling in the UK. Will be checking out your pages.

I never had the Cortina, but the survivors I still have are a Ford Capri, Ford Model T and Mercedes SL.

Once I got back to modeling as an adult, the Airfix bag kits could be found at shows for $5 or so each. I'd grab them up since nobody else wanted them!  Then eBay came about with the International market and that all dried up.  I probably have collected a dozen or so including the Dennis Fire Engine and the Double Decker bus.  That bus was my nemesis as a kid!  I never did finish it!  In school, US military school in Germany, we had a period which was "Clubs", so of course I was in the model club. For an hour a week we'd meet and work on models.  I had the bus!  I remember bringing the little Humbrel paints and working on it each week.  I remember the box losing parts in my locker and eventually it went away!    I will do it justice one day!
