Hello all

I am new to the forum and just left my first introduction post. I have decided to become more “serious” about completing model kits. I have built kits on and off growing up and have brush painted and spray painted and pretty much slapped lots together. It wouldn’t bother me if I couldn’t get one piece to fit properly as I would just omit that part!

i just purchased some kits and well as some modeling tools (Work smarter not harder). I made some paint stands from coat hangers and made a spray booth out of foam board. I also purchased an airbrush setup and have decided to start out with craft paints thinned down with washer fluid. Well here’s where I am at so far with the 57 Ford. The body has not been clear coated “pledge/future” and I will be attempting to foil the side areas rather than decals. I’m definitely open to suggestions and constructive criticism. Thank you for your time

That looks like some fine work. Great color choices. I am working on the same kit and it is a nice kit. I am about as far along as you are.

I think it looks great so far, you're doing good.  My only suggestion would be to use Tamiya tape. It will help you get crisper edges and cleaner lines. I have tried to use regular masking tape and painter tape and you end up with rough edges, the Tamiya stuff gives really nice crisp lines and rarely ever gives any trouble pulling paint layers.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Welcome to the forum. I echo Oldmopars suggestion on the Tamiya masking tape. I've always had my best luck using their tape and they offer many widths and it doesn't leave any adhesive residue. You have done some nice looking distressing of the exhaust and some of the frame, maybe add a little to the underside of the body. Your paint finish looks good and the assembly of the frame and suspension as well as the engine look very cleanly done. How do you plan to finish the chrome trim ? A suggestion if you're going to use Bare-Metal foil, they also make a gold colored foil that works great for the inert in the side trim. The finish is just a little bit shinier than the 1:1 but a very light brush coat of semi gloss paint tones it down.

Thank you I’m pleasantly surprised at the feed back. I did pick up some bare metal foil in both colors. So the center portion will be gold as on the actual car. I used frog tape for delicate surfaces. But I will order the suggested tape. Thank you. I’m proud that it is being viewed as decent quality from everyone. There are definitely imperfections but I’m not going to get to crazy about it, Like I said it’s my first go at “taking it seriously”. I picked up a ton of these craft paints at a craft shop that is going out of business so some were 33 cents a bottle! But I picked up some color shifting, some metallic with nice flake so I’m looking forward to trying out some ideas I have. Thank you again for the feedback. I will update as I go. Take care
