cobraman Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Bought this awhile ago on the bay . Don’t recall ever seeing it before . Typical of a small scale kit but seems to be molded nice and hopefully will look good built up . 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 (edited) Cool project. The model looks very good. The Ford P68/69 was a fascinating but little known car...beautiful but unsuccessful...with a very low drag body design that also proved to cause poor stability. I'm sure you'll do it justice. Sure wish somebody made one in 1/24. Edited January 4, 2020 by Ace-Garageguy
cobraman Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 This one was new to me. Never heard of this car.
DonW Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I built one of these about 45 years ago, not a bad kit given its simplicity.
Dann Tier Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 That actually looks like a pretty darn nice kit, bud!!!...i keep wanting to try my hand at a 1/32.....someday, lol
DonW Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Airfix also did a Porsche 917 in 1:32, that was a good little model too. Worth looking out for if you enjoy building the Ford.
Matt Bacon Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 There are four of them based on the Airfix/MRRC slot cars of the late 60s/early 70s. For some reason (licensing most likely) the Ford P68 has been out more often and more recently than the others. There’s the 917 and a Porsche Carrera 6 and a Ferrari 250LM as well. It may be that since the P68 wasn’t a factory Ford, but a private venture by Alan Mann Racing using the then-new Ford DFV engine which went on to power Formula One for a decade or so, there are no Ferrari or Porsche licensing lawyers and stratospheric fees to contend with... One thing I noticed when I built mine is that in period it carried quite a lot of sponsor logos, so if you want to reproduce it in racing trim, you’ll need one of those mixed logos decal sheets... best, M.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Here's an IPMS writeup on the kit, with some potential issues to look out for. https://web.ipmsusa3.org/content/ford-3-litre-gt-starter-set
cobraman Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 Thanks Bill ! You are always helpful. Az yet ? At my age I should be building larger models and not smaller ones !
cobraman Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 Made a little progress on this one . As expected the decals were no good so I ordered some . Kit does not have those splitters (?) on the front end so I will attempt to make them . 1
Dann Tier Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Looking GREAT, Ray!!!....it does look like a really fun, stress-free build!!!
cobraman Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 Thanks Dann. Looks like the tiny suspension pieces could be a challenge for my fat fingers and my 68 year old eyes.

unclescott58 Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 The build above was looking great Ray. I assumed you finished the kit. I have to go hunting on the site to see if I can find it. An intriguing car. I found one at a local hobby store today, and had to buy it.
unclescott58 Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Again, I’m curious to see if Ray ever finished his. I’m slowly working on mine. I’m finding the suspension a bit of a bugger going together. On this feature alone, I would not suggest this as a starter kit for anybody who has not build a model before.

cobraman Posted September 25, 2022 Author Posted September 25, 2022 I did finish it. I thought I posted in the Under Glass Section. I will try to remember to drag it out and post a pic here. Did not turn out that good, I should have molded the body pieces.
