Sam I Am Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 So after spending time with you all here in the diecast section I decided to see what my small town had to offer. We have four stores, Walgreens, Riteaid, Walmart, and Fred Meyers (our local Krogers). Walgreens had this simple rack of what looks like 1/43 Wellys. Some nice subjects but toy like and only the doors open. Riteaid had another rack of Wellys with some modern 1/24. Walmart had a little higher end of diecast, better subject matter in 1/24, 1/32, and I am impressed with some of the 1/64 stuff. Fred Meyers was the absolute Hot Wheels heaven, bins and racks on sale at 5 for $5, and a whole aisle dedicated to 1/64 with a few 1/24 nascar and some 1/32, and models. So if I were to pick up any diecast locally, it would definitely be the higher end 1/64.
Snake45 Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 The Motor Max '70 Elky (at your Walmart) isn't horrible. I Snake-Fu'ed one a couple years ago. Since there's not one in styrene, it'll have to do. Looked like a couple Wellys worth having in that display. I think I saw a Shelby and a '19 Corvette. I have no use for 1/32, 1/43, or 1/64. One obsession is enough!

One obsession is enough! Yea, I looked hard at that Elcamino. I have the flintstone resin body, 68 donor kit, and front end parts from an amt 70 Chevelle are on their way to me, so all I need is the 70 Monte front bumper. It was REAL hard walking out of the store empty handed today...
Gramps46 Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Wow, you are one lucky fellow to have so many choices in town.
57peppershaker Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I wish we had that much choice available instore here in the UK. Other than Hot Wheels pickins are pretty slim. And the prices you guys are paying ! Oh I need to get on a plane again real soon with 2 empty suitcases
randyc Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Auto World and M2s are my favorite 1/64s. Looks like you have a lot of choices. Watch that Rite-aid rack. Lot of folks here find good stuff in that rack when they restock it. And then what's left hangs around forever. That late model GTo is a nice car other than there is no brake detail. And make sure it has all it's windows in place - have seen a lot that are missing the side windows - I guess they get poked out? Keep hangin with us. We may be the cool kids. Or we may be the nerds. idk...

Stay tuned! I've been working on cleaning some, but that just doesn't show up well enough for a progress thread. Found my old Brookfield Chrysler New yorker (1998ish?) - was hoping it would look better, but the years have not been kind to it. Can't wait to see some new Snake Fu projects. Always inspiring.
THarrison351 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Man. I really envy you guys and the Rite-Aid Drugs. Nothing for us out here in Kansass.

When Walgreens bought them out, they closed our Rite Aid. Just when I was getting the hang of making a stop regularly.
Snake45 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 For those without a Rite Aid, I can recommend Diecast Models Wholesale: https://www.diecastmodelswholesale.com/ They carry all current Wellys (including many I've never seen at Rite Aid) at good prices--most $19.95, some even $14.95. Flat shipping $9.95 for any order. No it's not Rite Aid's $9.99 but if you find three cheap Wellys you want and split the shipping charge between them, it's not too bad. Fast shipping, too. And once you deal with them, you're on their mailing list and they send you an e-coupon for another 10% off every so often. Good place to deal with.

Here's what's near the top of my To-Do Snake-Fu list: *Welly Porsche 356 *Welly Mercury Capri *Maisto 2002 Z06 Corvette *Maisto '78 Corvette *No-name '63 Vette roadster (got from Randy) *Burago Ferrari GTO *Federated Auto Parts '64 GTO *Maisto Ferrari F12 (kit) ...and I THINK I have a dark green Johnny Lightning '66 Mustang to do. I realize that I now have all generations of Corvette in diecast except the C4. I MIGHT have a DC C4 stashed somewhere; I know I bought several promos from a guy about two years ago but don't remember if there were also some C4 diecasts in there. I'm sure there are good cheap C4s available, such as Wellys or something. I don't like C4s enough to go to any great effort to get one, but I'll keep my eye open for one at the local toy show. Now that is a great list from my perspective. I am really curious about the '63 Corvette roadster.

It's pretty low-line, about on the level of that very common Motor Max '67 that pops up in batches from time to time, maybe not even quite that nice. But you know me, half the fun is the challenge of seeing if I can make something halfway-acceptable looking out of it.
randyc Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Snake: Great list! Good luck wiith that 63! If anyone can make something happen with that car, it's you. And the Federated GTO I want to see - I have looked at them but just not sre enough about them.
kilrathy10 Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 I do fancy my local CVS stores... They are the same as Rite Aid and Walgreens.... Lots of Welly and Motormax stuff...
Snake45 Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 There are several CVS stores in my area but they don't carry the 1/24 Wellys, only some 1/32 or 1/43 stuff of no interest to me.
