James Flowers
Soon be 57. The wife gives a little flak ever now and then about buying to many at one time. She always knows where I am now, unlike in my younger days. Will buy and build till I can not build anymore.
Rob Hall
I think that would put you around the 34-37 range.....in 1971 my dad was still paying 25 cents/gallon I'm trying to remember the price of gas and diesel when I first started driving (1986). First car was an '84 Escort diesel, followed in '87 by an '87 Mustang GT.
stump
48 here....for another 7-8 weeks...... Still enjoy building model kits, though I tend to try and modify them too much at times.... ..Have only ever built 1 kit "box stock" from memory.... My parents had mixed feeling, my Mum still does at times...though it was she who got me my first couple of kits.....all those years ago. Dad's only concern was that my building kept me up too late on school nights..... ..He got over it. I only have a couple of close mates who build models, most of the others still think we play with toys..... It wont stop me though..... Spike
I'll be 29 in DEC. Unfortunatly I don't have the support from my wife that most of you do. Every time I buy a new kit she asks "why do you need another one when you have so many to still work on"? I HAVE A TOTAL OF TEN UNBUILT, LOL. Oh well, what can you do. She knew about my hobby when she married me. 10, thats it? ive got about 20+ in the corner of my room, and i keep buyin,,, i hate bein an impulse buyer

bobss396
I'm 53 and damned if I can tell you how I made it this far. My first kit was probably the Monogram Black Widow in 1960 or so, I built like a maniac up to age 18 when I discovered REAL cars. I still recall gas for 29.7¢ per gallon. I quit building until 1995 or so, but had a 1/2 dozen kits that followed me around since 1974 and FINALLY got into them. I've been building since and didn't get much support at home at first, but the wife has come to accept the hobby and takes an interest in going to shows too. My kids built when they were younger and went on the road with me to a lot of shows from 1999 to maybe 2004. We had a lot of fun with it and now can get one of them to sit down with me at the bench once in a while. Bob

falcon wagon
53. Started building 64-65. First model was a Lindbergh Jag, My second wife didn't understand Model Cars at first till I told her that I put as much of myself into what I build as any Artist does and from what I have seen way more than some, and now she thinks its great. Eshaver
Im 58, still onery as hell too. My first model was a gift because Richmond Ford , a dealership in Richmond Virginia was participating in a contest where oyu came in with youre folks and they GAVE YOU a model! Meanwhile there was a contest and I was amazed as to how talented some of these people were considering what we had to work with in those days, its a miricle any thing .got built. Any way, I was given a 1961 Thunderbird convertable. My second model was a 1961 Buick Special station Wagon with some of the greatest accessories I've seen even to this day! I only wish someone at A M T is reading this because seriously, the engine and gasoline cans and the trailer and the Working engine hoist............................ Dave Mikrut
Born in 52, just turned 56 and started in 1960 building the Hawk rubberband salt flat models and all the cool $1.49 AMT and JoHan kits. Never built them right out of the box then or now. When I was 17 gas was 19 to 29 cents a gallon but my 57 Chevy I raced on the weekends at U.S. 30 drag strip in indiana used Sunoco 280 which was 47 cents a gallon! carguybradd
Recently hit the big four-oh myself, with no sign of slowing down! I build 12-15 kits a year, and have been active since my wife (regretfully) encouraged me to get back into it when we were still dating, many moons ago. nonova
I am 54 years old with the mind of a 16 year old. My wife sais she has three kids, our two daughters and me. You are never too old to build models. You are using your mind and hands to create a minature piece of art. How many brain dead video game players can claim that.
