carsntrucks4you Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 The idea for this weeks challenge came from our fellow member DonW. As usual please sent a PM with Year, Make and Type Thanks DonW
peteski Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 This one immediately jumped out at me - just have to narrow down the year. And I'm not sure if I like or dislike its looks. I'm sort of at odds with myself.
MrObsessive Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 I had to do a double take on this one too! I think I got the exact year narrowed down but the model itself IS tricky. BTW, I do LOVE the looks of this car! Too bad there's not a full detail kit of it. At least none I've ever seen.
dodgefever Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 The model is the easy part... there's one dead giveaway. The year is more difficult for me.

carsntrucks4you Posted March 15, 2020 Author Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) This weeks car was a 1966 - 1971 Jensen FF (FF stands for Ferguson Formula). The FF was the first production 4x4 passenger car, long before the AMC Eagle, Audi Quattro and Subaru Leone. It was based on the Jensen Inteceptor which was 12.7 cm (5") shorter and had only 1 side opening, while the FF had 2. Only 350 were build it wasn't a commercial success compared to the Interceptor. No convertibles were produced. It seems that this one was an easy quiz because 15 out of 17 got the correct answer Matt Bacon sjordan Bucky dw1603 Richard Bartrop Pete J. Yes there are 4 giveaways - the additional 5 inches in the length of the front end, the revised grille area, the scoop on the bonnet / hood and of course the twin vents behind the front wheels. Cheers, -Don.
GeeBee Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Another easy one for me, my Dad was working at the Jensen factory in West Bromwich when I was a kid.
Pete J. Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 I think it was easier because it was the odd cousin of a pretty well know car. If you had a reasonably sharp eye, you would pickup that is wasn't the Interceptor when you compared a couple of photos. The two side vents were the giveaway to me.
MrObsessive Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 The side vents are what had me doing a double take, but also the car seemed more "compact". I didn't know about the shorter wheelbase they had. I knew it was some sort of Jensen, but not the Interceptor. I had to look up this one to get the exact model name. I'd still like to see a model of one!

It's a rather bodged lookng piece of kit. Edited March 15, 2020 by STYRENE-SURFER

Dad had two 541Rs that he used to commute long distance in. They were fabulous, quicker than everything else you were likely to meet. One of them was this colour:

A lot of the people involved had been building tractors all their working lives so it was over-engineered (and on a budget) and did the job well. It did make the FF a fair bit slower than the 2wd Interceptor due to weight and power loss through the drivetrain but it could hook up with the tarmac and come out of a bend faster than most.

DonW Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Jensen 541R 4 litre straight 6, 125mph fibreglass 2+2 coupe. Leather seats, good radio, overdrive. Steel chassis, fibreglass skin.
STYRENE-SURFER Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) Oh, ya gave it away?. I see some styling cues from other brands that make it interesting. Edited March 15, 2020 by STYRENE-SURFER

peteski Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 This one was easy for me because it has a unique look. Plus I had a Matchbox model of it as a kid (and I liked its looks). Dinky and Corgi also made models of this car. Well, the models were of a 2-wheel-drive Jensen Interceptor, but they look almost identical, so only small amount of additional research was needed to correctly identify it.
