iamsuperdan Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 I don't think I ever posted this one before. Finished this one last summer. Went together well, as can be expected from a Tamiya kit. It's finished in Tamiya TS24 Purple with XF19 Sky Grey making up the interior. Added some carpet and seatbelts to this one. No engine in this kit, but that's okay with me, as you can't show off the engine on the real thing. This one reminded me that I need to mock up everything I build, as the ride height on this is unacceptable. Should have lowered iot significantly. The wheel center caps were painted, and decalled...and are somewhere on the workbench in the garage. I spent at least an hour looking for them, to no avail. I suppose they'll turn up at some point! Ah well.
NOBLNG Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 Nice job! These kits go together very well. I am currently working on their 911gt3. Yours looks great.
Dann Tier Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Looks BRILLIANT, Bud!!!!.....better kolor than yellow too!!!
89AKurt Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Nothing wrong with PURPLE! I like purple, and this looks good in it. I remember reading about how you can't see the engine on the real car, imagine the maintenance costs! What makes this kit "special edition"?
kelson Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Very nice!,a think a couple coats of clear would've really made the color shine.

A couple more would have helped with the shine for sure. On 3/20/2020 at 10:00 AM, 89AKurt said: I remember reading about how you can't see the engine on the real car, imagine the maintenance costs! What makes this kit "special edition"? Actually, the entire engine and transmission is mounted on a sub-frame, and the whole thing can be dropped out of the car in under an hour. I believe the Special Edition refers to a Japan only edition of the Boxster that came with the BBS-style mesh wheels colour matched to the car, the "Speedster" humps behind the seats...and probably some other stuff from the Porsche accessories catalog.

Dan,,,my comment wasn't about the colour....which I happen to like a lot BTW. It refers to one of the best commercials Porsche ever put on TV about the Porsche Boxster. It created quite a stir. The public loved it, Porsche Boxster owners...not so much. It can be found on Youtube under " Porsche Commercial Awake". Youtube won't let me post a link here.

I worked for the local Porsche dealer for many years, and was there when the Boxster weas launched. This commercial was played at the official launch event we held. It was the big intro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH1CaV17cM8

Whenever we saw a new Porsche Boxster all we could say was Holy Moly. In the commercial its actually holy schmolly but we always just shortened it. Boxster owners got a little tired of it. I have a good modeling buddy who still owns one and he had to be reminded of this only just recently. I have at least 5 purple Porsches in my collection so your choice of colour was never in question.
