Jon Haigwood Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Was there ever a Finned Oil filter included in a KIt ? I need to duplicate the one pictured. R&M has one in resin but the fins are a bit small. Withe resin after the Molotow is applied then the red paint applied when I try and remove the red from the top of the fins it looks terrible,
OldNYJim Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Parts By Parks makes (made?) something similar, but it’s hard to tell if the fins are deep enough to work for what you’re trying to do: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F372829175202

Mike999 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 The Monogram-Revell '40 Ford pickup has that "beehive" oil filter. It has very fine fins on it. I just checked the kit I have in the stash. It's on the chrome tree. Here's a not-so-good pic stolen off the internet. Look on the right side of the pic and find the pair of pliers. The second item up from the pliers is the oil filter.
espo Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 A lot of the kits that portray a '50's era car or truck will often have such an Oil Filter. This was something that was often included if the kit also had a modified Ford Flathead engine included in the kit.
BeakDoc Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Revell ‘49 Merc custom has a beehive oil filter in it.
Casey Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 You're not going to be able to top the Parts by Parks beehive oil filter...unless you prefer to see a visible molding seam running the entire length of the filter, on both sides, sticking out like a sore thumb.
Fat Brian Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Since the Parks part is aluminum you could probably gently deepen the fins by rolling it across a table top with a razor blade pressed into the bottom of each line.

And on the one from the '40 pickup, a big hole in one side where it mounts to the firewall.

Some actually have a seam: Edited March 25, 2020 by Erik Smith

935k3 Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 since you are getting a metal one I would just paint it red then use a Q-tip with thinner to remove the red on the fins.
