cruzn Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Gang .. I type this with a heavy heart.. One of the Pioneers in our hobby had a Massive Stoke and is not expected to recover. He has Minutes if Not hours to Live.I received and email from a Member of the Slammers. out of KC. "I JUST (12:55 PM) received a phone call from Jan Paeth with bad news. Bob late yesterday suffered massive seizures, is in a drug-induced coma, they have removed life-support expecting him to die within a matter of minutes or hours. His family got to visit him and Jan, God love her, actually took time to call me. She will be sending or calling info about the memorial service to be held later when that time comes. " When I hear of More I will send the Info.. I have met Bob about four times.. and every one was a special time. You see Bob grew Up in My Home town area.. Richmond, California. (San Francisco Bay area). Every time we got together we would reminisce about the Ole Hometown and what it used to be.. We would Laugh and Kid one another as only You could with Bob. I learned alot from Him In these short times we had together. Plastic welding his custom tips and such. Lets Keep Bob and his family in our thoughts during these times.

RJ44 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Very sad news. my prayers go out to him and his family.
Exotics_Builder Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Bob is a good friend. Even though I was with the PSAMA, I would get down to Portland often and support the SABA activities. Bob was always there doing how-to's and reminisce about his days at Revell. Learned a lot of history there. I haven’t seen Bob since we moved to this God-forsaken area, but have communicated with him at times. I thought his health was on the mend. One can only pray it is not as bad as is it portrayed. But I’m afraid we’ll be eulogizing him soon. Bon Chance Bob and thank you!
Joe Handley Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 It's saddening to hear this, but my best wishes go out to his family, they've made a tough decision for sure.
Dave Mikrut Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 He sent me a message, we were keeping in touch on this, cause we both were having troubles with cancer. He gave me his phone number, said it would be nice if we could talk. He told me he had gained 30lbs and he was doing great. I didn't reply, was going to get back to him after Toledo. Now I am very sad to have missed an oppurtunity to talk to him. I am very very sad at the moment.
Mike Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I've heard the name, seen the name, and seen the great work in pictures. He will be missed.
MrObsessive Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Wow, such sad news! I got to meet Bob for the first time at the GSL last year.........he and I had a nice and long conversation, and he gave me some pointers on my about to be started again '55 Ford. We're about to lose another one of the great pioneers in this hobby.

Bud Ellis took these photos earlier this summer, he is such a nice guy and we stayed friends after this show. I still have messages and emails , we have not finished our talks. Wildrice Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Never met Bob but had the pleasure to chat with him on the forums. Very sad news. He was truly a pioneer to this hobby we all love.
E St. Kruiser50 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I have not heard any bad news yet, i am still praying for him that he can hang in there and get well! Bud Ellis took these photos earlier this summer, he is such a nice guy and we stayed friends after this show. I still have messages and emails , we have not finished our talks. Bob schooling me on welding plastic.... Sad news for all of us, and a shock when Jan called me. Bob and I have been friends for years, and belong to the same club. We only live a few miles apart, and just had breakfast together a week ago. What a joy to have known him all this time. I am going to the hospital in the morning to say good bye to my friend.
carguybradd Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I didn't get the pleasure of meeting Bob in person, but I've chatted with him on various forums and know of his achievements. He will be sorely missed.
James Flowers Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Sad news indeed. I have read a lot of his articles in the old magazines. He was looking for copies of some of them one time. I emailed him that I had one and if he wanted it. He emailed me back and said he had it. I know its not much but I talked to him by email . I would have never thought I would get to do that with anyone of the great ones. Thanks to forms like this we all can have chance too. I wish the best for him and his family .
Aaronw Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) That is sad to hear. I just read an article about him the other night, sounds like an interesting person. I didn't know he had been a firefighter for the Richmond Fire Department at one time. Edited October 15, 2008 by Aaronw
1320wayne Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I just got off the phone with Ron Martinolich, president of the SABA club in Portland, and the news has not changed. Unfortunately it's just a matter of time before the good lord takes Bob home. Bob was a pioneer in this hooby, to say the least, and moreover than that he was a great friend and he will be sorely missed by many. I had the rare privilege of knowing Bob firsthand for six years while my wife and I lived in Portland. When we first moved there and became a part of the SABA club I thought it was great to finally meet one of the well known names in modeling history that I had read about for so many years prior. I was like a kid in a candy store. It was like meeting a celebrity. I have many fond memories of the short time that I knew Bob. From the club meetings where everyone loved to pick on him because Bob loved to talk and if he got going on a subject it would be 20 to 30 minutes before he was finished. My first trip to GSL in Salt Lake was spent with Bob, in a car, for twelve hours. You get to know a lot about someone when you spend 12 hours in a car with just the two of you. He was kind enough to introduce me to a number of other greats in the modeling community that I had only read about up until that time. The more I think about it the sadder I get, but I can rejoice in knowing that Bob is going to a far better place. Now if no one minds I would like to share a few pics. of Bob in and around the hobby that he loved so dearly. Bob and Ron with Miss Oregon from the 2007 Portland Roadster show. Bob with his "Klingon Cruiser" award from last years GSL Bob, at one of the club meetings. Bob, I say to you, it was my honor to have known you and I will miss you dearly. Godspeed, my friend.
VW Dave Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I never met him personally, but I had crossed paths with him on one forum or another over the years; his work and love for the hobby is well-known by all. God speed, Bob.
Steve D. Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 A true giant in our hobby...he will be sorely missed . My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends . One thing about the "I-NET" and these forums and all , is the chance you get to meet people like Bob . Although I never met him in person , he was always there to respond to some of my "oddball" requests for info over the ........... yeh..I guess it's been years . Well GODS SPEED to you Bob , until some day we may meet ...................................... With a heavy heart Steve D.
