unclescott58 Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Finished this one last night. It's Monogram's curb side, 1/24 scale Porsche 904. Not the more detailed Monogram reissue based on the old Aurora dies, in 1/25 scale. This is the reissue from 1996 of Monogram's own original tool from 1965. I like this version better. It's simpler. Goes together better. And to me, looks more correct. The only problems I had with this kit, deal with decals. The instructions and box art indicate at a Porsche decal and Pure Oil decal be placed on both sides of the car. But, they only give you one of each decal. And as far as I can tell, this has always been true of this kit. So which side do you put these two decals on? The right or the left. It's also thing missing a license plate decal for the rear. Again from what I can tell, has never been included with this kit. Now the question you maybe asking, since I mentioned a Pure Oil decal, where is the one on mine? I don't know. I placed it on the left side of the car, where it belongs, as on the box art. A half hour I went back to check on the model to see how the decals were doing, and the Pure Oil decal was pmissing! Where it went, I have no idea. I could not find it anywhere. I did use Tamiya decal setting solution. And it had no negative affect on any of the other decals. So I have no idea what happened to that one decal. Despite the decal problems. I'm very happy with how this one turned out. In my opinion, one of the three prettiest cars Porsche ever designed.
89AKurt Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Cool to see someone build this vintage kit! Clean build. The decals for mine looked shot, but I did something different anyway so didn't matter. I could dig around to see if I still have the decal sheet, but always tricky to use old ones.
Gramps46 Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Well done. The number #34 matches the 1964 Le Mans entry but it had no Porsche crest nor Pure Oil decals. Pure Oil sounds more like Daytona.

At the time the 904s originally raced at Daytona, Pure Oil was the sponsor gasoline used by NASCAR. I wonder if they were expected to or forced to use Pure gas when running there? By the way. I miss Pure Oil. When I was kid, it was just about the only gas my dad would buy. I loved their Firebird logo. And was sad to see their stations all convert to Union 76s after they're merger/take over in the late 60's. The only thing cool about Union 76 were the antenna toppers they gave out at the time. Im such a fan of the old Pure Oil, that I buy just about any toy I can find released with their logo. Including the the very cool Greenlight service station released in the last year or two. Plus, about two years ago, I built the Revell snaptite Mack truck and tanker kit, and added Pure Oil sticker to it. So I'm a big Pure Oil fan. After all, "You Can be Sure With Pure." I do know there was a jobber who bought the rights to the Pure Oil name several years ago. And you can Pure Oil gas stations in some southeastern parts of the United States. TarheelRick Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Very nice build of a beautiful Porsche. I have the 1/32 static kit and slot car. I really need to dig those out, clean' them up and display them.
Kennyboy Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 Nice clean build! I recently finished this exact kit myself! Used Fujimi wheels/tires, painted scripts.
Gramps46 Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 This is my original build of the first Monogram kit. I used the Aurora wheels but they are really too small and some of the details are not right. I really need to update and refresh it.
unclescott58 Posted April 7, 2020 Author Posted April 7, 2020 (edited) I like the giant dead spider on the static model of Ricky's above. I hope he did not get the driver before he died. Edited April 7, 2020 by unclescott58
